first time with the family best hike this far. beautiful scenery and fresh air. dog friendly easy hike.

Trail is in excellent shape. There are three spots in the meadow where you have to cross snow. One being 100 yard or so. The others much shorter. Get an early start. The horse flys were no problem going up, but getting hungry as I can down around 10:00. While the 3 miles on the switchbacks in the forest are pretty boring, the last 1.2 miles in the meadow and summit makes the hike 5 stars.

Perfect weather today for this short hike with a Beautiful lake at the end for a nice picnic! Concur with previous reviews though for the road condition. Trailhead is 5 miles from Mt Loop Hwy and that 10 miles combined probably took just as long as the hike. We made it in our Kia Forte but did scrape in a few spots. If you have similar vehicle and don't know how to navigate these obstacles (potholes, rocks) then may be good to choose another hike. The worst of road is first 2.5 miles I would say.

we did the hike today with 4 girls, 1,5,8 and 9, it was harder than expected, definitely a workout. its about 1.2 miles up hill. The 3 oldest started to complain a little before we reached the top. plenty of parking and not many people on the trail. view was beautiful!!!

Relaxed, fairly easy and short hike. The lake is beautiful, although there were a lot of bugs so repellent is a must. I loved seeing all the water lizards swimming around. There are a lot of huge pot holes on the road up so I wouldn't attempt getting there in any low to the ground vehicle.

Took my teenage boys out for the first hike of the year. Nice hike. Great view at the end.

Very miss leading. You have to hike Monte Cristo Trail before you even get there. Views were nice once there not so much getting there.

Fun little hike. Took small kids... enjoyed the ice caves at the end.

Caves aren't anything spectacular yet.

Great trail for kids!

Great trail. The 1st mile is easy going with places to stop along the river. After that the trail narrows and has a number of very short but steep up&down sections. It was raining pretty good this morning and the trail was becoming very slippery on the inclines. Turned around about 2 miles in due to not wanting to slip & fall because of the muddy conditions. Plan to return on a sunny day to go all the way to the end & do some photography. Spectacular beauty along this river trail.

We could not get to trail head in a Nissan. Pot holes huge. Need a car truck with high clearance. Wish there had been better info on road.

Narrow path = lots of yielding. mosquitos enjoyed the snack. mountain = beautiful

Super kid friendly. Loves the views, weather was nice no mood. My 2, 6 and 8 year old had no problem hiking.

Quick easy trail, nice vistas, good for young kids.

short hike and sooo beautiful.

I am a fairly new hiker and this hike was absolutely brutal once you get about a mile from silver lake. There was a few large patches of snow to cross, some pretty steep scrambles and it was raining the entire trip. It was gorgeous but hard for sure!

Seriously amazing. Never seen anything like it. Easy hike, good for all skill levels and ages.

Still some snow on the trail. Wasn’t able to make it to the second lake, but still worth the trip.

It was a good hike with my 3 year old sun. The road to the trail head indeed has a lot of potholes but it was fine for my subaru forester, drive slow and you should be fine.
The hike is not very complicated but your kid will need help in some places. Both lakes are beautiful. It took us 45 min to get to the second lake. Be ready for bugs. And please don't leave garbage after yourself.

great hike, very short but so beautiful. a great one for kids!!

good hike even with the road closure, crampons are definitely a must for the last third of the hike to the top but plenty of splendid views before I had to turn around because of steep snow peaks.

Great hike for Fathers Day. Well maintained trail, but definitely well trafficked. We took our dog, all other dogs where on leashes. Took us just over an hour, round trip. Highly recommend!

Hiked this trail on 6/4/18 and at around 3 miles there was a lot of snow on the trail so we turned around. Very tough hike as you gain a lot of elevation but really pretty.

I love this trail for what it is, kid friendly, easy,
close to home, and beautiful. This is far from my favorite hike but it’s a fun place to explore when I’m with my toddler or limited on time. LOVE how much parking is available here.

Found this trail by chance. The road is closed due to snow and most of path leading to the trailhead is covered with a few feet of snow/slush. Beautiful views throughout and made it to the lake without much snow gear or snow shoes. The lake is gorgeous, still a bit frozen but in the process of melting.

this 2nd time there was no cave because the snow but view worth it

Late Memorial weekend 2018. Busy. Was our first time. 2 adults, a 17yo man-child and 4 year old twin boys. We all had a great time. Easy enough for the kiddos. Increased challenge for adults when we carried the twins. lol. Gorgeous views. Good amount of snow at the top. Trail easy and clean. We heard an avalanche on our way down. It was closer to the top. Still ominous as it echoed throughout the valley. Definitely going again.

Crowded, but a nice hike quick hike to a glaciers.

Be aware that after you turn off the Mountain Loop Hwy, the road is quite rough with many potholes. That makes it a bit of slow going getting out to all the trails in that area. This particular hike we only finished in part because the trail wasn't very clear to us. We ended up walking along Lake Evan, which is also quite serene and pretty. Once the trail dries up a bit more it will be even better. Lots of roots and uneven trail. Definitely not ok for anything like strollers and such.
