I did this hike a year ago and it was a good one. Beautiful, challenging and well kept. There seems to be snow into spring so dress accordingly, I had to learn the hard way with this hike but it was well worth it! Make sure you are in good shape to finish this hike so you can finish it in a timely manner!

on Mount Si Trail

Beautiful! Lots of snow at the top today. Glad I brought my spikes.

Light rain the whole time. Well marked trail, friendly folks and close enough to the city to get an aggressive training hike.

A great challenge and beautiful view! I did not need crampons at the top after Monday’s sunny day it was mostly melted and slushy.

My wife and I hiked to Mount Si with our hiking group. We went up Old Mt. Si Trail and came down the new trail and traversed via Douglas Fir Trail. By taking the new trail down we made it easy for our knees. The weather was mostly sunny. The temperature was 51 F when we started at the trailhead and 43 F at our lunch spot and 66 F when we got back to the trailhead. There was some snow near the summit. The view at our lunch spot on the rocks was pretty good, but Mount Rainier was hidden in clouds.

Awesome hike! We had a pretty warm day yesterday and a lot of the snow melted at the top. I put my spikes on to walk 20 feet then took them off. Stay on the pinestraw and you're all set, the spikes were over kill IMO.

Great view on the summit. Recommend it.

Excellent hike! My bootie raised two inches this day. Be sure to wear spikes there is still ice and snow at the summit

Good relatively easy hike. Quiet compared to Mt Si trail. Cool birds.

A little wet & muddy road, but I like it.

Awesome view.. The trail was not too crowded.. Very good workout

Beautiful hike. Must bring crampons during this time of year to get to the top.

Steady gain in elevation. Perfect if you’re looking for a low-key morning workout. Hiking boots, poles, and crampons are a must if you want to make it to the top. The snow pack gets pretty slick as you get higher up!

Great hike, great view. Good evaluation and length but a little busy in weekend.

Wife and I did this trail this morning and had a great time. The parking lot was fairly full but the trail was never close to being anywhere near crowded. The weather was just right with it only being a bit cool towards the top. I was hesitant at first about bringing crampons but certainly glad I did. I got a kick out of watching all those in sneakers skidding and sliding around trying to not fall on their butt or worse off the trail. Overall it was a fun hike and would recommend it.

On March 10th a Friend and I climbed to the top of Mount Si. Here is a video i made along the way: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0tvffyzSH8&t=3s We began hiking at 6:00am from the main trailhead, it was 29 degrees, clear skies and only a few cars in the parking lot. About 2ish miles up the trails we stopped and i put on my crampons, microspikes would have also worked a little while later we made it to the top of Mount Si through a near vertical scramble. I would only attempt this if you have crampons or an ice axe as it was a little hairy!! The cornices at the top weren't terrible but still stay away from the edge. We stayed at the top for a little bit took a few photos and then began working our way back down the views were incredible, not a cloud in the sky only a little windy. On the way down we encountered a TON of people we couldn't hike for more than one minute without seeing another group of people headed up the trail. We reached the trailhead around 11:00 and it was full. Again here is the video i took on the hike: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0tvffyzSH8&t=3s

Be safe out there,

This hike is awesome! Right now it starts to get icy just before the falls. The falls were partially frozen when I was there. After the falls it gets very steep. You have probably 20-30 mins of a rocky terrain and after that it's all powdered snow until the top. Fantastic views from the top. Be careful of the cornice at the top. The hike down was a nice change of scenery from the hike up but it felt like it dragged on forever. All around a great hike! Will do it again!

It’s hard, but worth it once you get to the top. Should be in moderate shape before attempting to get to the top.

We were able to get to the top without spikes, but we certainly slid around and took a few falls. Overall, the intense uphill battle is completely worth the beautiful scenery, friendly birds, and memories. Dress warm-top is covered in snow!

It’s somewhat crowded at the summit. And the view is just so-so. But the trail itself is quite nice.

Super fun hike, did it a couple weeks ago. Although both parking lots were overflowed, there was enough room up top to really enjoy it! Really rewarding views

It was quite muddy today but well worth the sweat. The view at the top was very rewarding!

completely agree with the previous post! microspikes are a must!!! the last 2 mi of the trail are still covered with snow and ice

It was busy but enough space to spread out on the top, pretty views and well shaded for the hike.

Awesome hike on a sunny and clear day. Might be a miserable hike with rain or snow. Once above the falls the trail is straight up. The trail is in excellent condition in my opinion and easy to follow but steep so be careful going both up and down as any slickness could cause an injury. Shortly after we started on the ridge line we went to spikes and soon after to snow shoes. This can change though. On the day we chose the sun was out and we started to post hole. Also there was a crusty layer of snow with power beneath so the snow shoes provided the best form of travel. If you prefer to post hole every few steps then you can leave the snow shoes at home. They did help on the way down as we took the longer loop trail which DOES NOT drop in elevation very quickly so it was a long walk down with the snow shoes, but they were worth carrying. We made the top in three hours and the long journey down in three hours. Pretty respectful winter times for feeling under the weather. Weather and conditions change on the upper part of this hike daily so make sure you are prepared. I would consider the section between the falls and the summit "hard" for many as they are calling Mt Si a "hard" hike on here. This section is straight up for s short period of time and you need skills and confidence to do this safely.

Pulled into the last parking spot of the trailhead around 9 am. Very busy hike so earlier the better. Had lunch at the less busy, first viewpoint overlooking big si. Great sunrise or morning hike when you don't have a full day available.

Did this hike on March 10 - super clear day and great hike. The hike is ~50% packed snow, so I’d recommend micro spikes but definitely doable without. Great view on a clear day.

This is a good first hike of the season. It’s steep from the start, then it’s flat for a while, then it’s steep at the end. Got a good workout without getting too sore the next day.

Ps, it’s definitely around 4.2 miles instead of 3.6.

Definitely a fun, manageable hike. Gets a little busy on the weekends so get there early if you don’t want to either get lucky, or wait for a parking space (we saw people had parked off-site from the trailhead and walked in). All and all it was a good time going up. A little muddy/slippery toward the top right now, so be careful!
