Completed 6/29 This was a bucket list hike now checked off. Gorgeous day with stunning mountain, river and forest views. Competed it just fine with 3 year old walking entire way, and a 5, 8 and 9 year old too. Hard to tell where trail ends but we clocked going the correct distance according to the app. Can be completed by all skill levels!

Steep snow pack over trail until saddle. Difficult without poles and crampons.

The trail has recently reopened with the rest of the Sunrise area trails. It’s an awesome hike with unbelievable views the entire way. The view from the lookout ended up being obscured due to clouds, but the rest of the hike made it well worth the effort anyway. There were a few small patches of snow that were easy enough to navigate without poles.

Strenuous! micro spikes, poles, and gps necessary. Shallow, mini crevasses are starting to open up below base camp as of 7/8/2020.

Oh my gosh- just hiked this today with my two sons 8 & 11. It was incredible. Checked every box - beautiful trail - beautiful views - just don’t forget bug spray . 2 miles in is swarming with mosquitoes- I couldn’t even count how many I killed and they still ate us alive- worth it , I say but my sons may not agree lol

I went in early July of 2020 and this trail is completely blown out. As soon as you get to the trail head behind the inn there is about 2 ft of snow covering the trail. About a quarter MI in the whole trail is blown out and it is unsafe to cross unless you have spikes and poles. I only had poles and the trip down was very steep if I had fallen. Also the Ranger warned me before I went in that there had been "many search and rescues on this trail recently". I wouldn't attempt until August. Also for those who don't know you will pay $30 to get into the park if you don't have a pass.

Not all hikes with beautiful views have to be difficult! Nice easy trail, some snow, but manageable with just sneakers. Beautiful views, saw some wildlife. Perfect for families with younger children! Great find!

What an epic day! We hiked to the summit of Crystal Peak and then over to Crystal Lakes. With views of Mount Rainier once we got above the trees and tons of wildflowers, this hike was amazing! It was a steep climb the whole way, but worth the views. We saw the lakes from the top and decided to add the lakes on the way back down. It was more climbing, but the upper lake is gorgeous. We even took our shoes off and cooled off in the frigid water. I highly recommend this hike on a sunny day.

It was a nice easy hike to sheep lake, then some incline to get to sourdough gap and some pretty great views. If you continue onto Crystal Lake you will find a snow patch along a drop off that is doable but be careful. Crystal lake was beautiful, some bugs but not too bad. Good moderate hike, would definitely recommend!

Sun sure showed up today! We were expecting party cloudy and mid-50’s but it ended up being somewhere in the 70’s. Made the lake so enjoyable. Based on reviews of wet, swampy, mud near the lake, we packed gators (and spikes in case of snow patches), but only crossed one easy patch of snow up to the gap. We went most of the way, but parked it just shy of Sourdough- went to the great views of Rainier with the lake below. Magenta Indian paintbrush and some other beauties showing off. More that will come soon. Such a stunning hike!

Beautiful hike but there’s more than enough snow at the 5000 and above foot level.Took lots of beautiful pictures of waterfalls and rain forest beauty all in all it’s a great day

Incredible hike I’ve done it twice now and it never gets old! The views are worth it.

would definitely recommend doing this hike later in the year when it’s warmer BUT a fun hike nevertheless. if you’re hiking now, bring snow/waterproof pants so you’re able to slide your way down the snow covered hills!
