Really beautiful trail, and not too difficult once you get warmed up. Lots of marmots and chipmunks and a few birds I can't identify. Quite a good variety of mountain views (of Rainier, St Helens, Adams, and Hood), creeks, fields, rocky summits, and a few waterfalls.

without a doubt the greatest hike

Awesome trail! Pretty easy hike overall, a few steep trails heading up but then it’s all downhill from there. Lots of super friendly chipmunks and mountain beavers. There was a lot of fog/clouds so the summit was covered most of the hike. Really cold at the top of the loop (wish I’d brought gloves and hot tea). Also heavy foot traffic.

I went counterclockwise as suggested in comments and it was gorgeous!!! Saw mountain goats, marmots, bears, and more! You can go clockwise and do the elevation in the first 2 miles and descend the remaining 4 miles or go counterclockwise and climb longer distance but not as steep but the last 2 miles can be hard on the knees. Some comments say it’s paved most of the way which is not correct if you do the full Skyline Trail up to Panorama Point. It is only paved in the beginning by Paradise Inn, I’d say approx. 1 mile if you go clockwise and paved 1/2 mile if you go counterclockwise. Also some comments say they would rate this moderate but for many this would be rated as hard. Suggest trekking poles and cold weather attire with the wind and altitude as you head up to Panorama Point especially in non-summer months. Sept. 14th was already finger-numbing at the top since I wasn’t expecting the chilling wind. I run warm and was fine with lighter hiking pants and thin long-sleeved moisture-wicking top but I heard others commenting on how they were unprepared for the weather change as you get up in elevation so just bring proper attire so you have it if you need it. Maybe summer months would be more temperate weather at the top. Beautiful hike!!!!! EVERYWHERE you look there is a magnificent view!! Such a rewarding hike!

Beautiful trail! We went counterclockwise - would definitely recommend. It was pretty foggy at panorama point, so we couldn’t actually see anything, but the rest of the hike was beautiful. Saw lots of marmots and a black bear!

Finished in just a little over three hours. Arrived at the Paradise Inn parking lot at 9AM and there was plenty of parking. When I was leaving it was almost full! Beautiful hike and well worth the drive. Saw lots of wild life including a black bear. Definitely go counter clockwise. You get to come down the mountain (it’s steep) but enjoy amazing views. Overall a great day!

Finished in 3 hours. Lots of wildlife along the way. It was pretty wet toward the top but totally worth it. Just make sure you’re prepared if it’s a rainy day. We got hit with some hail at the top. A really fun hike either way.

Very busy and many parkings lots (but they fill up quickly). A moderate hike that is absolutely worth the effort, although I cannot guarantee its ease for all

Really nice trail. Well marked throughout with both gravel or payment. Took about 3 hrs at comfortable pace with lots of stopping for photos. Started at 5pm and we were basically the only ones on the trail.

Weather is super cloudy today but was still a nice venture, saw some marmots!

Definitely not "hard", not really sure how Alltrails scoring works but the first part is literally paved... Would probably recommend boots for the later parts but there were plenty of people doing it in trainers and they seemed to be fine. We did the route clockwise and took the Lake Trails junction rather than cutting back to Paradise as per this route, which took us down to the reflection lakes. This (plus the Glacier View .75 mile each way spur) took us to about 10.5 miles which was a good distance. We arrived about 9.15 am and there was plenty of parking, when we got back a little after 2pm the place was pretty packed out. The trail itself was busy the first couple of miles, then it empties out a bit. After Panorama Point it is much quieter. The woodland trails further down the mountain were much quieter and we saw 2 bears and lots of marmots. This was Saturday 7th Sept. The views of Rainier and the glaciers are absolutely spectacular and the whole thing was a great day out - and with the extra add-on almost qualifies as being hard!

Wow what a great trail. We got there about 8:30 and there were still lots of parking, but they filled up fast! We went clockwise and that started off on an incline right away! Really got the heart pumping quick! The views got better and better at every turn. Incline got better after a little over 2 miles. It’s was good after that. The greenery was beautiful, lots of flowers and butterflies.

Completed this trail yesterday and it was nothing short of amazing. Lots of people the first 1.5 miles but it thins out after. Beautiful views at every spot, the trail is a mix of paved and gravel most of the way, with some rocky parts. We saw 3 black bear, heard an avalanche, caught some rain at the top, saw a rainbow and lots of marmot.

One of my favourite hikes! Beautiful views. It was very cloudy when we started (clockwise) at 8:30am, on Sunday Sept 1st but the clouds cleared with an hour of the hike. We did see a big bear but it was far from the trail at the time.

Completed this hike yesterday, 9/3, counter clockwise. Steep uphill climb for about 2 miles then easy downhill that rest of the trail. We saw 1 mama bear and 2 cubs in the meadow, then we saw a large black bear feeding on berries right next to the trail toward the visitor center. Mt. Rainier did not come out behind the clouds until we returned to our car in the evening, but otherwise an amazing, beginner hike.

Did counterclockwise - less crowded, unpaved for the majority of the hike up. Definitely a few steep spots and several stairs. Rumored to be a black bear in the area as well although we didn’t see him. Considerably easier hike if you are doing clockwise to panorama point and then head back down.

Amazing trail for a day hike it is pretty steep but it’s worth the views

I would say this trail is not hard at all. The temperature drops significantly the higher you go so it feels rather pleasant all the way up. Never mind the fact that most of this trail is literally a paved path with very well maintained gravel roads. The top gets a bit rocky but overall I would consider this hike very elementary and overrated. It wasn’t crowded at all either but maybe that was because I came early on a weekday. most people from the parking lot didn’t hike more than 300 feet in elevation before turning around lol

This trail is mostly paved or gravel the whole way and very crowded, making it hard to feel in touch with nature. Probably better for families or those new to hiking. Avid hikers likely will want to look somewhere more off the beaten track, I wish I had done more research before coming here and all of the 5 star reviews are misleading.

Went July 5 and crowds weren’t too bad! Get there early- we got there around 9 am and found parking but other people had issues that came later. Beautiful

Beautiful trail. Rocky and lots of stairs. Make sure to wear hiking boots, bring plenty of water and a snack. The views are great, so don’t forget your camera!
