Got to the trail at 8am. Steep trail but a great workout. Some snow and ice when we got a little closer to the lake but we were fine with our hiking boots. Dog friendly trail.
Road to trailhead is suitable for all vehicles, no snow or ice today. Vault toilet is open. Trail is in good condition, with a few short stretches of icy compact snow along the way. The lake was partially frozen with minimal snow. Nice hike!

Snowshoes not necessary today. Gaiters, spikes and poles were very helpful. Get at it!
As of 12-1-19 Road: Sketchy, but made it up with a 2wd Camry. Trail: About a foot of snow. Snow shoes 100% recommended. Trail easy to identity even with the snow. Views: Amazing
12/3/19 Some snow on the trail but it’s easy doable without micro spikes as long as you take ur time. Trails was wet tho. Light rain the whole way, couldn’t see Mt baring, was mostly hiking behind clouds. Easy, well mark trail, family friendly. Only saw two groups the whole way.
Got to the trail with overcast and light rain. Very few cars on a Tuesday at 9am. Started the trail with micro spikes, and glad I did as it help with the slush and snow from the get go. Took us 5 hours out and back including 20 min lunch ( see recording) although foggy, snow lake was stunning. Got a little off track on the way back twice, and had to double back. All trails app was amazing with off trail warnings. Must do hike! Not difficult or technical, 10.5 miles all in. Snow made it a bit tiring but worth the effort.
Nice ride for a beginner like myself.
Amazing trail to a gorgeous alpine lake, if you plan on doing it now in the winter, bring crampons, good ones for snow and ice. Beautiful views, great scenery and we made our way back at night fall. Truly amazing hike y’all
