Beautiful hike. Pretty quick hike, but you’ll definitely get a good workout in. Amazing view from the top. Lots of smoke because of wildfires at this time.

The first 1.5 miles of this trial are excellent. Well maintained and all uphill with beautiful scenery. After you rich the lake, the path gets a bit tougher, climbing through rock fall, lots more roots and much smaller pathways. I read in the comments about people using the toilet facilities instead of digging a hole; well at best there is a toilet every mile, so its not much help to those camping there. there are signs for the toilets, but no signs for campgrounds, which are actually hard to find. Wish there where signs for that. And, lastly... the first two campsites should be reservable... for old folks that want a challenging two-hike... but have a hard time going 5 miles with the unknown of is there even a campsite available?

We hiked this beautiful trail yesterday, up to the first lake! We had three kids age five with us and they did just fine!! We plan on going back up to finish the trail to the second lake. By far one if my favorite hikes!

Beautiful hike, crowded at 7am. Walked it with our cat, don’t forget your discovery pass! There is also a pull off on the road immediately before the trail parking lot (if coming west from Seattle) that saves you about a mile of hiking.

Rocks, dirt, and dust. While dogs are required to be on leash, many of the 'my dog is well behaved' folks ignored this. Parking was not an issue, even at a 1045AM arrival time. Unsure why this hike is rated 'hard' and the 'Ira spring' trail is rated 'moderate' when they are the exact same? 1.5hrs up and 1.0hrs back down makes for a quick trip.

#findsamsayers - Sam went missing on this trail on August 1st. She made the summit around 3pm. Check out the Facebook group for updates and help if you can!

beautiful mason lake makes the hike and elevation gain worth it. took my dog and we both went for a swim in mason lake. gorgeous views all along the way. saw lots of fellow hikers along the way.

Easy with kids! Wish we had packed a picnic!

Beautiful trail, with some steep grade but the changing terrain makes it a fun hike. Views are supposed to be good too but the smoke from forest fires prevent it. Delicious huckleberries and blackberries atop were a nice treat too. I would recommend packing something more than a couple pb&js if you plan to spend close to 8 hrs on the hike like we did.
Oh also, we didn’t experience any bugs, I guess due to the smoke from the fires.

Trail was in perfect condition, pretty busy from 1-3pm. Lots of families and dogs. A few more flies than anticipated but a wonderful day hike!

The final gravel portion of the road is best navigated in a vehicle with high clearance - big gravel and potholes. Beautiful old-growth trees, ferns, fungi and mushrooms and the rare columbine, plus fat blueberries ripening as you get higher. A great hike for a hot day, because it is virtually 95% in the trees. We only encountered 4 other parties on an August Saturday. Lots of water near the trail, even in August, but evidence that earlier there was a lot of water on the trail. Root-y and rocky for much of the time, and little variety + no vistas made 9.7 miles seem more like 15. Some muddy spots even in mid-August, and hungry mosquitoes in the usual places near water and mud. 10 or so giant blowdowns, so major tree crossings necessary. The lake is small and shallow with little shoreline to enjoy, charming nonetheless.

An amazing trek. It was pretty smokey when we went through but still gorgeous. Water sources were plentiful once you pass much of the mine work down closer to the townsite of Monte Cristo. The hike to Glacier Basin is pretty vertical at times and is not for the beginner hiker, but certainly a challenge worth taking. The reward is one of the most beautiful views ever and on a clear night the stars are close enough to touch.

Great trail to the waterfall. Show up early and it's not bad.

Much more enjoyable than the zoo at Snoqualmie Falls.

Warning! Trail is closed until 08/31. Rangers are actively ticketing trespassers

Went up to Gothic Basin this past weekend and is sad to report back that almost every single campsite had a fire pit in a location where fires are prohibited. We disassembled some of them but was frustrated and angry to see that people have no respect for these fragile places that we are so lucky to go and for LNT principles. Please educate yourself before heading out there and leave places better then when you found it.

I love it. No traffic, hard and beautiful view. Btw it’s very easy to miss trail. You need to be careful. Using map is best option.

Beautiful hike today. Trail is in great condition. No water sources along the trail so be sure to bring enough.

Beautiful hike. Gradual elevation the whole way through. It really is 7.4 miles to the lakes for almost exactly 15 mile hike round trip. Totally worth it.

Fantastic hike. You get to experience all sorts of terrain :) And no bugs whatsoever this morning. It was good knowing that most of the elevation gain occurred as you approach Hemlock pass. Consistent pace is the key.

Beautiful!

Lakes are beautiful. It’s about 15 minutes south of surprise lake till you reach glacier. There are a ton of bugs at the lake but they don’t bite

AMAZING first official hike since moving to the area!!! We took it nice and slow so we could take in the scenery and it did not disappoint! There were many beautiful views and not crowded at all, we passed 4 people the entire trip! The trail was semi muddy in some areas but that didn't stop us! My husband, myself and our dog will DEFINITELY be doing this one again!!

Well maintained, light traffic, beautiful and not a huge commitment. I had trekking poles but didn’t hugely need them. No sign of bears, just an odd amount of slugs drying in the sun. Easy parking, free and no way to get lost.

Gorgeous hike. careful when you get ti the trail head with the other trail... can be confusing but the trail almost doubles back. Worth the trip.

Great hike for beginners and kids. Awesome overnighter as well. lots of camp spots with rock fire rings. Plenty of lake area to play in and the scenery is awesome.

been there last summer. it was my first hike in Washington. the view was amazing but the hike was kinda hard and I don't recommend this to beginners

I hiked it July 1st. i did it, but i am a climber. There will be to much snow (dangerous) until about mid July unless you have an ice axe and know how to use it. Nice hike with nice views. The trail, before I hit the snow, was in good shape.3 miles is a really short trail.

awesome hike ... early part no shade so a little exposed but latter half gets really deep into the forests .... the lake itself is on you all of a sudden so hidden it is ..... not much of a place to hang out but well worth it .... the return trip is at least 40 % faster !!

This trail absolutely destroyed my legs, went camping for 2 nights, Gorgeous scenery, but do not let the "light scrambles" confuse you. There were some parts where I should have hiked in a ladder. All in all the hike is beautiful but a very very strenuous all uphill/rock climbing hike
