HikingGreat!

On 10/7/20 we went one way on trail, down to Stehekin. We hiked in via War Creek trail, all in one day. It was a great hike down a steady decline with great views of Lake Chelan. My mileage put it at near 10 miles down and it felt that. I used 2 poles which helped over uneven ground at times. Only a few trees down over trail near the end. You should be in good shape to do this hike.

Hiking

Didn't do the entire trail due to time constraints, but we hiked out to around the 3 mile mark which has a beautiful view of the lake and surrounding mountains. If you're staying at the North Cascades Lodge, this is a convenient hike because the trailhead is right next to the visitor center.

CampingGreat!No shade

Great trail. Beautiful views. Lots of sun exposure so would be best to hike in the spring or fall. The ferry dropped us off at the Price Creek Trail head. We hiked over 11 miles to Moore Point. Great campground on the beach. The next day we hiked to Stehekin and stayed at the North Cascades Lodge. Lots of fun!!!

Backpacking

Bucket list type of experience, World Class scenery, we did this mid June and even though it was hot in the mid to upper 80’s it usually would be worse. BackpackingGreat!Over grown

Great backpack with my 13 year old daughter. Ferry dropped us off at Prince Creek around 11:00. My wife and younger daughter stayed on board for an overnight in Stehekin, so they waved us goodbye as we headed out on the trail. We caught a great weather weekend with mid 70's on Saturday and a little sprinkle on Sunday and cooler. We hiked to Moore Creek Campground, which according to the GPS was 11.5 from Prince Creek to the actual Moore Creek Campground at the lake. The hike definitely has ups and downs throughout which had us working a bit, but overall it was a wonderful backpack. There is plenty of water along the trail via streams - at least when we were there. Moore Point Camp was pretty full as there was a pretty big group of boat-in campers, but we found a spot to set up and enjoyed our night with an early wake up the next day. We were the first group out in the morning (hit the trail just before 7am) and enjoyed a nice backpack into Stehekin. There are a few places where the bushes overhang the trail for fairly long stretches. The trail is easy to follow but there is some wading through the foliage. We didn't see any snakes though one group in front of us did see a rattlesnake on day one. We had a great time in Stehekin, including an awesome cheeseburger before catching the ferry back to Chelan. A great way to spend the weekend!

Trail is overgrown but easily followable, until about 4 miles in and 5,400 ft. up, where the snowfield starts. I knew to expect it from reading other trail reviews, however since this was my first solo backpacking trip, once I realized I couldn’t follow the trail through it I turned around (and got lost for a bit, but was able to find my way back with my map/compass). Someone with more snowfield experience could probably follow across, but not for me. Once the snow melts, I plan on coming back. Gorgeous trail. Nice campgrounds nearby. Lots of solitude.

Great time. Ferry dropped us at Prince Creek Hiked to meadow creek shelter first night and then into stehekin the next day. It was hot and temps were only in low 70s. This would be a challenge with higher temps. Water isn’t always convenient. There are bridges over some streams and access is limited. Rattlesnakes, ticks and mosquitos were all out in force. Also, early in season the trail has quite a but of bushwhacking. Stunning views. Early season solitude. Go prepared, plenty of hydration and poles recommended. Also services in stehekin are not open due to COVID-19

Beautiful views on the lake quickly into the trail. We went about 1.5 hr in and then back as we just wanted a nice evening stroll. Parked at the visitor centre and then walked to the trail (ignore the first trail sign you see which lists this and two other trails with an arrow pointing the same way (don’t go in that direction), you’ll want to walk a bit further till you see a sign that only lists this trail). At the start you will pass a few picnic tables and bear safe food storage boxes. Check yourself for ticks - we found two on ourselves and eight on our dog!

Just not super interesting. Burned out forest, decent path itself, a couple spots with gorgeous views. Saw a rattle snake on the path. No shade on the southern half of the trail.

Hiking

My friend and I wanted a less trafficked 2 day backpacking trip, and this one met our expectations. We took the 0830 ferry from Chelan to Prince Creek (booked ferry tickets for 2 adults and a dog about two days prior to the trip). It seems like Prince Creek is simply a drop off for hikers. There were three other pairs who also got off the ferry here, but there was no town or anything, just a trailhead sign. We then hiked 11 miles to a river which had a sign for the Moore campground. We took the half mile path to the Moore campground which was very nice. It was right along the calm lake with a couple piers and designated spots for campfire. About 4 other groups were camping there. It was lovely, though a few saw/heard rattlesnakes on the way there. The next morning we hiked the half mile back to the main trail then 7 miles into Stehekin. There, we got lunch at the lodge before the 1400 ferry back to Chelan (which took about 4.5hrs). There was more direct sun than shade during the whole hike but it crossed several creeks with beautiful purple wildflowers. Recommended for those willing to make the ferry ride out there.

HikingBlowdownNo shadePrivate property

We went from Prince Creek to Stehekin in 3 days with a 7, 8, and 14 year old. There were long periods of no shade, and a few long treks up. We only had to depack once to get across a blowdown on a river. Cascade Creek was a cute campsite but a hike downhill to get to it so the next morning it started with a long 1/4 mile hike straight up. Moore point is large and has secluded areas, but push to Flick Creek early. There is only 1 site there and it’s windy. We pushed past and make it to Lakeview which is an overflow area for Purple Point. Lakeview is better sites but no campfires allowed. The general store in Stehekin has everything you need or just mail a box to the Stehekin post office. Overall it was good, but windy this time of the year. We did encounter a bear, a doe, and a bat on the trail.

Did the southern half, up and back, to the rainbow bridge. Nice hike. Great view about 1 mile in.
