The park provides an open space away from the stress and activity of the city, a sanctuary for wildlife, and an outdoor classroom for people to learn about the natural world. The park is also home to the Daybreak Star Indian Cultural Center. Discovery Park is a 534 acre natural area park, located next to the peninsular Magnolia neighborhood in Seattle, and overlooking Puget Sound, with views of the Cascade and Olympic mountains. The park is built on the historic grounds of Fort Lawton, which was originally a Confederate prisoner-of-war camp during the Civil War. The park includes two miles of protected tidal beaches, a lighthouse, open meadow lands, dramatic sea cliffs, forest groves, active sand dunes, thickets, and streams. No dogs allowed on the beach.

Easy trail - very flat. Plenty of shades. The view of the extended trail is beautiful

It’s an easy trail, mostly flat! Not much to see on the way but the beach and the lighthouse is beautiful!

Good view of Rainer on a clear day.

Super easy for all levels- my 11 year old corgi, albeit tiredly, made the 3mile loop! Can be a little muddy if rainfall recently.

It is heavily used by runners, but it is beautiful.

Fun hike through a variety of scenery. The views of the sound on the south beach trail leading down to the beach are beautiful!

if you get lucky, you'll spot a bald eagle nesting in the canopy along the trail!

Easy fun hike for everyone!

Nice hike for the entire family. Beautiful views from the top of the bluff and on the beach.

The trail is great! There are ups and downs near the beaches. The view towards Bainbridge Island is great but the beaches are not that good. But anyway, would definitely try other trails later.

Good hike. Mostly is flat. A few uphills but nothing crazy.

Nice stroll around an urban park. The beach is really fun, especially if you’re lucky enough, like I was, to see sea otters and seals.

This trail was an awesome get-away from the business of the city. It is a pretty easy hike with equal amounts of shade and sun. There is a road for biking, with plenty of hiking trails that are stroller accessible. If you stay on the loop trail you will avoid all stairs, however if you go down to the beach you will have to climb quite a few stairs. Great conditions, little traffic!

Easy one. Nice view. Close to the city

Beautiful trail and well maintained but not as well marked. With plenty of side trails coming off of it you could easily take a wrong turn. But absolutely beautiful trail and I enjoy the hill climbing as well

good easy hike that you can take your kids as well.

Great way to escape the big city! There are so many offshoots along the main trail that you could come back again and again. Highly recommend!

Absolutely gorgeous sunsets at the most West Point, near the lighthouse! We had come across a few groups of intoxicated/potentially homeless individuals as the sunset neared, which made the trip back less enjoyable. Overall, highly suggest this leisurely loop in the evening to catch a beautiful spring sunset over the mountains and water!!

I wouldn’t first start the trail at night. However it is awesome to go at night! Very beautiful spot. Can’t wait to see it with some light!

Beautiful park with nice beach line. very kid friendly and lots of nice picture opportunities.

Beautiful park, gorgeous views. ❤️

We loved this trail and so did our pup! It had everything from covered trails to beaches and prairies! 4.8 miles in about 1hr 45min.

the difference between this being a walk and hike is the beach loop, love this place.

Love it! Quiet, fun, and beautiful view. Beware of waste water plant near, in some places the smell was distracting. You can hike along the beach, or take tame trails.

relaxing, close to town hike.

I love this trail! I am a 24 year old female in relatively good shape. For me, this isn’t so much of a hike as it is a nice walk. There is very little include, but there are some steep stairs you’ll have to take. This park is very wide open and there are options to customize this trail to what you are looking for. There is a beautiful part of the walk along the beach and light house, and it can get a little chilly with the breeze so I recommend wearing layers. It’s great for dogs and families, and going on runs. It’s well marked and there are several large parking lots to choose from.

Nice trail around a beautiful park! Great place for a mellow walk or an easy trail run.

Good views. Lots of trails. water treatment plant near the lighthouse smells pretty funky. Lots of tide pools at low.

Pretty Good urban park for hiking and trail running. Likely among the best urban parks as such in the country and certainly one of the most scenic. The South Beach and North Beach sections are great trails with views across Elliott Bay and the Puget Sound with the Olympics in the background. North Beach itself is good for hiking/running in the sand. I went around once in each direction to take it all in.
