went on this trail today (6/24/18). It is a brutal climb to the top but definitely worth it. Gorgeous views of Mt Rainier. No snow at all. it was a warm day and a lot of hikers but not crowded. A few hikers with dogs.

Hiked to the third viewpoint today. Trail was in great shape and the views were phenomenal. loved the diversity of terrain and the Indian Paintbrush at the viewpoints.

Pretty flat trail for the most part. Trail features 2 waterfalls which is nice, walk along some rushing water during some of the hike. Wish you could get closer to the falls, we tried but could only see from a little bit of a distance. Would do this hike again.

We just moved to Washington, and our home goods are still being shipped here so we chose an easier trail that didn’t require much beyond our tennis shoes and workout clothes. We got there at around 9:30, and it was very quiet.
There was an increase in hikers when we were almost back to the parking lot, and there was very little parking there at about 11:30.
I would definitely recommend this to someone who wants to get out and do a hike that won’t take up your whole day.
The falls were gorgeous, but I wouldn’t recommend the last scramble to families with little ones or anyone who can’t do a steep climb on rocks.
However, the whole trail until then was so beautiful and I loved the river views and clear forest streams.
Don’t let rain or an early rise stop you from getting out!

Good trail, waterfalls, flowers, three view outlooks.

Very beautiful hike!

Set out early to beat today’s heat: 80-83 degrees and had the whole forest to myself! What a beautiful PNW spring day!! Perfect for a wooded hike - much of it is through beautiful shaded forest! Creek, waterfalls, beautiful greenery, and oh, the views of Rainier and the valley below!! I set out with a mindset of seeing how I would do, and ended up pushing myself for the full 12 miles (6 miles in to Little Ranger peak lookout and 6 out). Tighter switchbacks in the beginning lead to the waterfall...then meander through the forest for awhile...pretty soon opens to great look outs off and on (you THINK are great until they just get better and better the higher up you get!). Toward the end, there were a couple small snow patches on the trail, but super easy to go around. I would call this trail easy to follow, even though the rangers warned there might be debris to clear since they hadn’t been through there yet this year and because of the wild fires. I really saw no trace of fires hitting this area though, until the very end, you could look way across and see a peak in the distance with some burned trees. At the very end, the trail doesn’t QUITE get you up to the peak (thanks to Per, who stated this below so I had the heads up), so I had to off-road a bit, but it was a quick 5 minute jont up. I picniced up there, basking in the sun amidst breathtaking views of our mountain and surroundings. On the way back down, finally passed about 5 other hikers/groups of people but the first few hours was solitude! Took about 5 1/2 hours which included stopping for pictures along the way and lunch. What a great spring hike!!

Loved it. Worth the effort to climb the rock scramble to see the waterfall.

Love this trail!

parked at the Buck Creek trail head. NW Forest Pass required. Trailhead clearly marked however it leads to you Ranger Creek Airstrip and then there's no direction. Turn right and walk down the road until you see a sign that says trail for hiking and biking. Snow and ice still on trail. we used microspikes no problem. Trail has recently been cleared of downed trees. if you don't want to climb (where the sign says falls) just go over the bridge and you can get a great view. next time I would take two cars and leave one at each end. beautiful trail.

Very icy. Very very icy. We ran into hikers on there way down and they informed us it was icy all the way up. We kept moving forward but we came to a point where it was just constant ice, we weren’t getting much traction and we weren’t getting very far... so we sadly turned back. We’ll try again in a couple of weeks. It has great potential but the ice was out of control.

This was an amazing hike ! Had a little bit of everything you would want to see ... views of the river were so peaceful and the true reward was the falls

This is a perfect trail to get out on with family as it is an easier hike if you don't do the rock scramble! We went in January and there was a light dusting of snow and the falls were still flowing and looked quite magical. Lots of downed trees but trail is well maintained and most have been cleared from the trail. There are several small bridges to cross as well, the view of falls is through the low brush but you can rock scramble closer for better views. Trail head parking was clear but in the past few weeks it had been icy so be prepared with your vehicles in Winter.

this hike was kind of flat in some area. The falls were gorgeous to clim to.

The trail is in great shape, and it's not that steep. It is also accessible during the winter. The doggie and I thoroughly enjoyed the hike.

Great day for the trail. there ares a couple missing signs but just stay right when the trail split at about the 3 mile mark. The falls where going strong. Only a couple of other people out on the trail.

This is a great hike. We extended it beyond the trail to get to the top of the ridge for a better view. It was not as straightforward as we thought but it was worth the effort in the end! A little bit strange that no trail exists all the way to the top (at least to our knowledge). I mean that's where you want to go right.

We didn't make it to the Falls. The trails were poorly marked. A few spray painted arrows on the ground. We stayed to the left with the many trails along the way, crossed a small bridge, which then brought us to the river. It was a spectacular view with a small beach.

Beautiful hike. Pass is required. Pretty easy hike. Except the last bit of it is 300 ft straight up. Pretty difficult actually. Nice view. The falls on were really tall and a bit more than a trickle. It's been so dry out. The hike was along a river with lots of trees. Watch out for mountain bikers.

Nice hike! Although there isn't a a lot of elevation gain until the falls, there is still beautiful scenery all around to enjoy. The scramble to the falls at the end was a challenge, but exciting for us and our 11 and 13-year old sons. Trailhead is across the street.

Hiked trail to Dalles Falls. Went in off of 410 just past viewpoint. Mostly uphill does not flatten out much, but a pretty trail. the first creek you cross over you have to walk across rocks or walk through the water. If you have hiking boots you will be fine. Went on the 4th and only one other group on trail. Took our dogs, which is a bonus. Would love to go back and hike to the viewpoints. Could not do it this time because we went later in the day when it was cooler.

Beautiful hike! Accidentally drove past the entrance for first time around so just keep an eye out for the sign once you come close on your gps. The weather was sunny and about 65 degrees. The trail was nicely kept and a good workout for the calves. Definitely recommend it!!

6/22/2017 (Thursday) - Sunny, clear, cool, 50-70F. Up to the 2nd viewpoint, 6 miles out and back, very light traffic, very good condition. Falls are getting dry. Numerous switchbacks on the first mile up along the creek, being graded for an easier climb up the steep cliff. Flowers appear on the viewpoints. A biker dashes down, so must beware of bikes. Only a small part of Mt Rainier's top is in sight at 2nd viewpoint.

fun hike and great for kids! the last part up to the falls is very steep and may be difficult for kids under 7 yrs old. very well worth it though.

this was an amazing hike! I having been camping in this area for the last 4yrs. and have never been on this trail! The waterfall is worth it. the hike is east in and out, but when you get to the sign that says falls➡️ it is a very steep and slippery hike up to the falls! I did it just fine and will be bringing my girls 9 and 5! i think it will be a bit difficult for them but they can make it! Just be careful when climbing this last part! Have fun!
