Awesome scenic views. For Oregon residents, be prepared to pay for Bridge of the Gods toll and get Discovery Pass.

Easy hike.

My hubby and I happened to be stranded in Portland for the weekend with our truck in the shop so we rented a car and decided to hit the trail and we came upon this one. We had a wonderful time and found the hike quite entertaining. I would consider the trail a fairly easy hike to the top with plenty areas to rest and take in the views..:.would definitely do this again

Not for the faint at heart, but breathtaking views! We did this quick hike with 2 young kids (7 and 5). The railings made me nervous for the kids, but that is coming from someone who had a small fear of heights.

Would recommend to almost all ages and abilities.

"Climb" might not really be the right word here (though if you're a rock climber you can do that too here).
becon Rock is about 850' tall, but if you hike it, you start about 200' from the parking lot where the trail swings around and mainly takes you up South West side of the rock. Most of the path was paved some time ago and once you're taking the switch back son the side of the rock you have hand rails and even few small bridges. The grade of the trail is easier then Multonoma falls, with the switch backs that range from 25'-100' a with each turn.

As a older and fatter hiker, I really didn't have any problems going up or down, other then stopping a lot to take photos of the views you get from here. You only need at best a liter of water on you, and I saw numerous kids easily handle the trail. This included 1-2 year old being carried by their parents (the trail won't handle strollers).

Most of the hike is on the south-western side of the rock, but just when you think you've reached the top, the trail takes you to eastern side for the additional views. The top part of the hike is probably the easiest as a whole too. You raise up about 850' from the base but keep in mind that you start from north side on this hike, you skip about 200' or so feet of the full elevation climb if you use the trail. Easy good hike for all ages.

Definitely an hour well spent, but the views from the top were obstructed by trees. We spent more time admiring the views from the trail than we did at its peak.

Amazing

Nice hike and views on a clear day! Amazing two guys built this in 3 yrs. The hired technical guy was buried in the little cemetery east of the rock, left on hot springs rd for the rest of the story.

Pretty cool hike! Not for the faint of heart. My friend didn't make it to the top for her fear of heights :( However, it was rainy and she didn't have very stable shoes on. There are some spots that have great lookouts even better than the very top. So if you are nervous, you will still see some amazing views even if you don't go all the away up.

I'm afraid of heights but due to other Hikers, they helped me overcome. There are rails to hold on to as you go up the path if you need to sturdy yourself. I was grateful for such a trail to allow a novice like myself to enjoy the view. The trail kind of wraps around the Rock and one spot was just a little too much on the edge for me. But the value of the many Hikers worked perfect for me as an encouragement. Beautiful sights the whole way!

awesome hike - pushed all the way to the top and the views along the way were so rewarding.

Love Beacon Rock, it’s in our “backyard” and we grew up hiking it many times. We took our kids for the first time last week. It’s straight up via switch backs all the way up, but there are many viewing points where you could stop for a rest. (Our five year old complained quite a bit and wanted frequent rests). The top viewing area is very small, not many people will fit together up there. But it’s worth the hike for the view! And the downhill is fairly easy. Love that there are restrooms at the trailhead. You will need a Discover Pass to park here.

This is one of the shortest hikes I've done that still gives you high-up Gorge views. If you exercise regularly, it's an easy climb. The trail did get fairly crowded with families around 11 am (I went on a Friday), so go early or during the week if you don't want to be passing someone on every switchback.

Great hike, really cool history, and beautiful views.

Arguably the best views of the gorge are from this trail. Located on the WA side of the gorge it's grown in popularity since I first hiked it. Yes, I'm terrified of heights. Yes, I went suuuuper slow but once I got going the hike became easier and more enjoyable. On a cloudless day the view is out of this world. I found the history of the rock very fascinating and it blew my mind that I was climbing the exposed inner core of a prehistoric volcano. Read the signs when you go if you have little ones. It adds an extra dash of fun.

Great hike. The view at the top was a bust because of overgrowth, but still worth it!! Take your amazing view pictures at lower view points.

Overgrown not worth it.

For great views of Beacon Rock, try the LITTLE Beacon Rock trail across the road; be sure to scramble to the top of the peak on your right at the end of the easy trail

This was my first time going and it was amazing! Beautiful views and all of the other hikers were friendly and said “Hi” when going past. At the top were a few squirrels who came up to me while I was munching on snacks! They were a little hungry.

This was my 8 year olds favorite hike this summer. Very cool to see how it was made and go over all the Bridges and switchbacks. My 3 year old walked to the top on her own, so it's not a overly difficult, just all uphill.

Super easy quick trail. Lived in the pnw all my life and have been on many hikes but just never managed to come here. Finally did it and it was a piece of cake.
I would understand if someone afraid of heights had a hard time but it’s very much worth it!

Great views, easy hike

Great views! A bit frightening for someone that doesn’t like heights but the payoff was well worth it.
