The island was pretty cool and worth the walk but overall just an average trail with not much scenic interest. There is a parking fee for out of state residents.

Skip the hike and go to the beach across the way. $7 to get into the park. Worth it if you want to get in some nice lake beach time (extra $3).

very nice trails. we saw two groups of deer and one group of humans. There are many benches on the trails. bring something to cover them so you can sit without getting dirty. several trails go to the finger peninsula. great lake views

Another pretty trail through the woods at Smith Mountain Lake State Park. It includes some limited water views, as it travels along a finger of the lake. It is easy to combine with other park trails, and there is parking at either end.

My favorite of the five trails that I hiked at Smith Mountain Lake State Park. It is a scenic loop through the woods that follows the shore in places, with occasional glimpses of the beautiful lake. The clear highlight however is when the trail makes its way over a narrow strip of land and a small bridge to the little island. The panoramic lake views were amazing on a spectacular fall day. I wish I had been able to linger there longer. It is easy to combine with other park trails, and there is parking at the trailhead.

I combined it with the Walton Creek and Turkey Foot Trails for a very nice three mile loop. It is mostly wooded and a little further removed from the shore than Walton Creek...but there were still a few pretty views of the lake.

I parked at the visitor center and started out on this trail, combining it with Striper Cove and Turkey Foot for a very nice three mile loop. There are beautiful views of the lake from the wooded trail. I was able to catch some of the last fall color in the trees on a gorgeous late fall day.

A very nice state park with several well maintained trails...most of which have pretty views of the large lake.

It was shady and a great walking trail. It ends at a picnic ground by the lake

My wife loved Smith Mountain Lake. Out of the way, but very scenic and nice trail around the lake.
