thus trail starts as an easy walk on paved way leads to well marked blue trail w open woods and mossy stones to add to the scenery. A cool cobweb illuminated high above the trail and a doe crossing cautiously were the best viewings. at the end a road is visible& audible taking away from the feeling of being alone with nature. The turn around pt. for me was that road. instead of crossing and cont. downhill I turned fir the steep well marked, and worn paved trail uphill. it was only a 20 minute back track to the reward of a breeze and veiw at Star Mt. monument. several othe day walkers,a dew other hikers made for a good day . ut covered well and also can get a slight breeze on most of the trail. easy ,free parking ,zoo and sm shop and clean bathrooms available during park hrs.

Steady, uphill trail. Great view of Roanoke at the top. Went on Thursday afternoon and only saw 6 other people. It is a rocky trail at points with unsteady footing.

One big hill, but overall an easy ride along the Ronoake river.

Definitely a good workout. Be careful of tree roots and the trails that only have rocks. Hraring the nature was amazing. Some of the trails do have a small walkway which can be a problem when you are passing someone.

The trail is full of rocks, tree limbs and steep inclinations. It took us roughly an hour and a half to go up and back down. The views from the star at the top were great and we didn't encounter any snakes, overall, a nice beginner's trail!

Easy climb/ descent loop. Smallish glacier rock towards the bottom more dirt higher up. Went midday on a Tuesday. Saw less than 10 people. Great views up top. Bathrooms/vending machine up top.

I went around 6p on a Tuesday and there were just a couple people on the trail. It’s a relatively steep climb with some rocks and tree roots, not terribly strenuous but not a walk in the park either. There’s an observation deck at the top with the huge Roanoke star behind you. This spot is crowded but there’s a pretty view and a public restroom there if needed. There’s even a webcam and my husband was able to see me from his perch on the couch at home. The trail was well marked and there were some side trails that I didn’t take but will explore next time. Definitely worth a little bit of your time.

Great hike for us tourist types. Beautiful views from the top but the less physically inclined overpopulate the area.

One of my favorite trails to run. But took it slow today as to celebrate birthday and time with spouse. WOW, this trail is so different when walking and taking in its awesomeness. Hadn’t noticed what a great job of maintenance and just perfect conditions before. Check this one out you’ll be glad you did. And explore it clockwise or counter clockwise too. Two trails in one.

Enjoyed a beautiful day! Trails marked with red paint on tree. Lots of rocks on trail in some areas. Definitely will be back!

I hiked up to the star this week and was pleased by the beautiful walk in the woods. Rocky in some spots, but generally an easy, steady climb. The view of Roanoke Valley is lovely at the top (and the clean public restrooms are appreciated, too).

Just moved to roanoke and we took the bikes down to the greenway. After two attempts will never go back, overcrowded and not bike friendly. People get angry if they have to share the road when saying passing left, parents do not tell their children how to walk or ride on the greenway. Children running in-front of you coming from the grass etc. HS track team walking 6 in a row taking up the whole bridge refused to let anyone pass. Two people walking dead center forcing everyone to detour wife said passing left told her to F$$ her self. They need signs put to teaching people how to share the greenway and to have children in check.

Nice easy hike in the woods with a view at the Roanoke Star. I started at the parkway entrance and linked a few more trails for a 5.2 mile hike with the pup.

The hike up was nothing spectacular, but the view is amazing!

Very well marked and easy trail. No big view points, but it's a nice walk in the woods.

Three star trail. Nothing spectacular during the hike up, just a bunch of switch backs. That being said it IS in a VERY convenient location so it you are looking for something to do outdoors that isn't a far drive, by all means, this is a great hike. Just not as spectacular as the other hikes in the area. Star at the top offers a spectacular view but is also easily enjoyed by driving to the top.

Slipped and fell down a muddy embankment. Haven’t really been back since. Too many homeless beggars with nothing better to do than drink and pass out on the greenway. Was enjoying it but now it’s just a nuisance. Too many people, overcrowded, bikers rarely let you know they’re there and just assume run over you and others act like they’re the only people on the planet. I prefer going doing slower times so I can attempt to enjoy it without disruption. Also homeless camp near Smythe Park and always from SE to Carilion part of trail. Beware they always beg and most always drunk or high! Wish the city would move the Rescue Mission to Bedford or Danville! Needs a higher police presence but cops don’t care and citing rule breakers. I have seen them arrest some of the drunks though. A girl I work with says there are perverts around also so beware and make sure you have protection at all times!

I had been starting to enjoy this one but there is no cell service once you get a little ways up and I ran into a total whack job that mooned me (in front of witnesses) and called me a communist because I follow the rules and have my dog on a leash. This idiot was in the parking lot and his two dogs were jumping on me trying to get to my little puppy! Cops did NOTHING! Never again. I have a shock gun now so I’ll be better prepared next time some nut job tries to make me look like the bad person for being a law abiding citizen!!! What a joke! NEVER AGAIN!!! Also his dogs had fleas so that cost me $50 for a pill to get rid of those! Gross! I don’t he or the dogs ever bathe! BEWARE!!! You could wind up in serious trouble here!!! Cops don’t care about citing the rule breakers!!! Could wind up missing or worse! I had started at the bottom near Dollar General! Lots of bugs also take DoTerra TerraShield if you dare!

Worst trail ever unless you’re lucky enough to go with a group that knows the trail. VERY POORLY MARKED AND EXTREMELY CONFUSING AND VERY DIFFICULT TRAIL!!! Don’t let it fool you or you may wind up missing or worse! Never again! Too scary for me and I attempted 3-4 times. Officially giving up on this one! NOT EASY AT ALL!!! Moderate or Difficult! I found it extremely difficult. I’m also mentally disabled though. Very stressful hike to figure out so I’m giving up. No views at all totally WORTH SKIPPING!!! Better trails are everywhere!

checked the star out at night , put my headlamp on and hiked to the bottom parking lot. ran into some deers and got spooked

nice close to Roanoke. I was surprised at the options, many trail combinations. you can hike from 2 to 5 miles. under growth was pretty thick in places. nothing special to see, but for an easy short hike, near Roanoke, to just get out it's great.
