I've been coming here since high school! It is very populated so it is best to go on week days. The parking lot is usually overflowing. It is best to drive across the bridge and park on the other side of the river and you can walk from another bridge and go about that way. There are lots of rocks to stop and swim along the way. Unfortunately, I have stopped going here due to increase in trash/broken glass. Still a very cool place to explore in the middle of the city!

Really enjoyed this quiet and peaceful trail with my dog. If you want to venture close to the water it’s easy to do so or you can stay on the path. Very shady so perfect on a warm day

when you get to the rock climbing wall at the end of the bridge to the left there's a small crawlspace that's not visible but if you find it a good adventure begins

Beautiful walk/hike. You forget that you are in a city. A great place to be on a hot summer's day.

Really interesting trail, but very populated. It's an easy hike with a lot to see and several spots for the pups (and you) to swim. The bridge over the James River was a really cool way to start and end the trip. The structures and rock wall along the way were really cool places to explore and take photos. I'd say it's more of an urban walk than a hike, though. We had to park a bit up the road (parking is very limited, especially for how busy it is) and in total "hiked" just over 3 miles from start to finish.

Huge tree down that I had to climb under. I was running so that was a hindrance. Trail is nice and shady for walking Easy to park.

Great way to get around downtown without going through the hustle bustle of busy streets. There are restaurants with outdoor seating along the path. Excellent urban path!

Great trail just to get out and about. Very easy. Make it longer by walking the Buttermilk trail to Belle Isle.

Very neat trail. Shaded and a lot of historical pieces along the trail. Bring water and bug spray!

Great views of the James River. Fantastic place to go for an afternoon stroll. Pack a lunch and enjoy a superb river view from downtown Richmond.

Some bouldering or mountain biking can be thrown in for an extra fun element.

The view of the river is great. This is a fantastic place for a morning or afternoon walk. Pack a lunch and enjoy the views while you eat. This is a very easy walk.

Parking is very close to Trail. Trail is very close to James River. You can spend lot of time on the river side. Very kid friendly. My 10 year and 2 year old enjoyed a lot. Spotted a huge owl in the Trail was a bonus

Enjoyable walk with plenty of beautiful views of the city and river. The hidden gem for me was definitely stumbling across the pipeline trail that runs under the train tracks and over the water. Easy for the family to experience. (However, I wouldn’t suggest the pipeline trail for younger kids or hyper pets).

Enjoyed this. Easy walk, beautiful day, not too crowded during the week. A few good photo opportunities

Love this trail! Slightly difficult at times but it encourages you to keep moving. Best to go during the week. This trail will lead you to Belle Isle and even to Browns Island if you chose to keep going.

Other than the history of the Bell Isle, and exploring the old power plant, this hike is fairly lame. If your looking to pass some time or can’t really find anything else to do in Richmond, I guess I’d go here.

Great walk with nice views! Easy trails. Perfect distance for the dog who loved it!

It's a great trail also great a part of history at the same time in RVA....

Really easy, leisurely trail. Great for a chill hour-long afternoon hike. A little dirty in some areas, but that’s to be expected in the city. Kids could easily complete this hike.

Nice, easy walk along the river. Lots of spots to hang out for the day and jump in.

Beautiful walk alongside river. There is a gravel path but we had more fun walking along the beach of the river where we could. Lots of other walkers on the gravel path and dogs.

Such a wonderful walk, one of Richmond's hidden gems is the canal.

This trail is awesome! But it gets crowded on the weekends.

Beautiful trail with awesome views of bell isle and the water. It wasn’t crowded at all and was very peaceful. But it’s really easy to get lost because there are so many other paths that branch off from the main trail, and it overlaps with multiple other trails. Make sure to remember which turns you took.

Amazing outdoor walls, right on the river, a great day activity for any aged climber.

The trail itself is not bad but the smell from the water treatment plant is horrible. Not worth it.

Literally just out our backdoor.
Great trails for a jog, a morning cup of coffee or an afternoon cocktail.
Look for RVA Rocks!
