Worth checking out. We took our 1 year old and he had a great time. The cave and water fall are a few minutes walk from the parking area so that was nice since we had little guy with us! Also, take the immediate left after crossing the railroad tracks, it looks like a railroad access road but that’s the way, otherwise you’ll have to turn around on a private road.

great 2 hour hike. Some spots a little rough with the incline but very manageable. Neat waterfall at the beginning and depending on the route you take they have a cool cave system you can look/go into.

Great hike. Nice waterfall. Beautiful forest.

waterfall has some interesting features and there are caves; both are in/near the southernmost part of the trail on the map (so close to the beginning of the trail). there is also the remnants of the old Mill structure. the rest of the trail is up and some more up (heavy side of moderate IMO) but a very nice walk in the woods.

It was so pretty! Some of it was difficult in terms of it being pretty steep on the way up. Besides that, it was beautiful!!!

Quite the journey. Beautiful waterfalls and landscape views from the top of the trail. Definitely would recommend!

Good trail but the best views are within the first mile

This was crap. There is no views. The water is disgusting and smells like something died when we got out of our truck. THE CAVE! Is NOT a cave I repeat NOT a cave. It is a cove NOT a cave. We will not be coming back or suggesting this “hike”

This trail meets a lot of needs such as: easy to get to, proximity to home (for me), short enough to do after work or on a day you can’t commit to a full day of travel and hiking, and some interesting sights. I really enjoyed seeing the falls and the cascades above it on the short loop. I also enjoyed the view from the top of the Knob on the long loop (no leaves on the trees today so we could view the valley and the distant Blue Ridge). The long loop otherwise didn’t have much variety to see and involved some long, steep climbs. A few switchbacks could make it more enjoyable for the length. This trail is perfect for a quick outing and a need to stay close to town.

This was a great trail! Waterfall was beautiful and we had fun looking at the caves in the rocks. Only complaint was I was hoping there would be better views along the way. Some strenuous uphill parts were a little challenging but I think 3.6 miles is the perfect length for a day hike (that doesn’t take all day). Happy hiking!

Absolutely beautiful

One of the best kept secrets in the Christianburg area. Very scenic area that features water fall, creek with bridge and caves. A short hike to the scenic are, or you can take the longer hike to get adrenaline going. Kid and dog friendly! Please leave nothing behind, except foot prints!

Very muddy water. Easy trail but not much to explore.

Great hike! The waterfall was very beautiful, and there are several caves near the start of the trail that are pretty cool to look at as well. The hike up the ridge was moderately challenging, and was fairly steep at times. Beautiful views. Keep in mind though, before you reach the entrance to the trail, you have to cross over a tiny, one-lane bridge that says “Use at your own risk”. Depending on how big your car is, it may not be able to fit on the bridge.

Best bang for your buck if you live in the Christiansburg area. This hike has it all and is not that far away from town. The entrance to the hike is slightly odd, you need to turn left immediately after crossing the train tracks and follow the road back for a minute or two until you reach a small packing lot off to your left. The trail starts with a quick 5-10 min walk in an open field until you reach the falls. You are able to hike around the falls for a quick loop (~20-30 mins) or continue on the path up the mountain if you want to add some mileage and elevation to your hike. Overall, I highly recommend this hike for people looking for a quick outdoor adventure.

Great short distance hike. Parking is to the left after crossing RR tracks. Falls are easily accessible and close to the parking area. This trail is clearly marked with red Nature Conservancy markers.

This seems to be a less popular (or lesser known) hike in the area, but it is well worth it! It consists of two loops: a smaller, easier loop around the waterfalls (take either the first right or continue straight for this loop), and a larger, steeper loop in the surrounding forest (take the left after the concrete structure). The stream and waterfalls were gorgeous. No big views or vistas on the larger loop, but still beautiful and worthwhile. Someone else mentioned bees down below. We also came across what appeared to be an underground beehive directly on the trail, but they didn't threaten us. But just be aware!

Very scenic but I wasn’t too impressed. If your looking for a quick view of a waterfall this is perfect.

A good quick hike. The trail is definitely steep at times. We enjoyed looking at the falls and the caves. The entrance looked like a private driveway but it was easy enough to find.

Lovely hike with very pretty waterfalls at the beginning. The 2 mile loop is pretty steep at times. We saw the sign after hiking with our dog that dogs are NOT allowed on this trail.

This is a great little spot for a quick hike for our family. Easy to navigate for our two boys and plenty to see even if you only do the short loop.

Nice quick little hike. Had some cool caves and water falls. Directions were a little difficult to find it but once we did it was fine. Read the plaque once you start so you can understand how it came about.

Great hike. Waterfalls are nice but on the smaller side. Went there in the winter when falls were completely frozen which I highly recommend going to see.

Steep hike the first 1.5 miles. After that it's smooth sailing and very nice. Beautiful caves and water fall

Saturday, February 03, 2018

Little more difficult then expected but I was wearing a weighted vest and going late in the day. The inclines are mostly all at the beginning and then they level off and make for a really enjoyable hike. The trail is thin on certain point so if you like hiking side by side with someone you may want another hike.
