A beautiful taste of spring - violets are blooming.

This is a short loop at the top of Roanoke Mountain. There is not much to the trail, but It is a good place to get out for a stretch and very quick hike after driving on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The best views however are from the parking area near the trailhead, as well as at an overlook half way up the winding one-way road that you enter directly off the BRP.

Not much to see on the walking trail. Says elevation is 2160.
The one-way drive up is the fun part. Just don't run off the paved path.

This is a very family-friendly trail through a nicely restored mountain farm. You can access it from either the visitor center parking area or the lot by the Humpback Rocks trailhead. It is also an easy and pretty way to extend the short but steep hike to the nearby summit.

This hike starts at the Round Meadow parking area just to the south on the Blue Ridge Parkway of Meadows of Dan exits. The trail goes immediately under a very tall bridge from the middle of the 20th Century through a very nice mature white pine stand with 100 foot tall trees! All sorts of nice flowers and ferns. Soon you come to Round Meadow Creek nice for wading. Here also one can simply walk to the main highway nearby coming out of Meadows of Dan. But proceeding upstream on Round Meadow Creek notice the dieback of the almost virgin Hemlock. The uphill portion back to the parking lot is to the right. Straight a forest road continues. Overall this is a short 1/2 mile walk but has a lot of variation and is VERY convenient for Blue Ridge Parkway travelers intent on getting back on the road quickly and also for the naturalist.
