Amazing views! My boyfriend and I go here once a month to watch the sunset together. It’s stunning! Might want to bring a few blankets if you go any season except Summer. It’s usually very windy at the overlook.

I'm giving this hike a 4 because it was very difficult, which was what I needed, but not spectacularly beautiful, as many others have said. As I was looking for a bit more mileage, I started from the parking lot out on 7, which connects to the AT from a blue-blazed connector trail, then headed south on the white blazed AT to the Bear's Den overlook. I am training for a long-distance hike where I am expecting ~3k ft of elevation change daily, and I felt like this was good preparation for that, but I didn't find the views outstanding. There are a few pretty creeks along the way. Others have said mostly the same thing. I wouldn't call any part of this hike "technical"(this is really a Class 2 hike with several steep but easily negotiable sections), but you do need to be sure-footed and pay attention to where you're stepping, as there are several portions where you will be walking from rock to rock. I saw about 20 thru hikers but only maybe 2-3 other day hikers on the trail (once past Bear's Den, that is). Overall, a good training hike. Bring your trekking poles (I regret not bringing mine).

This is a great trail to go with the family. It has some slippery areas so definitely get your stick. Fun and adventurous for all but short enough for everyone to enjoy it! . It’s shady so even though it rain we barely got wet.

AlwYs a fun hike and you can make it more difficult if you head further south before looping back. Ran across a juvenile cooperhead in the Rick garden just before getting back to the ru 7 parking area.

Love this hike. It's a nice relaxing trail with a great view at the end.

The path has many roots and rocks, so you might want to bring a hiking stick to keep from tripping. Its a great view from the overlook, and you can see Route 7.

First two hills are very challenging, technical climbs and drops with difficult rock scrambles. Last two hills are more enjoyable. Good verticals the whole way.

Is a beautiful trail. Was hoping for a creek or a waterfall, but no luck. However the rock area, the outlook is amazing! It is in between easy and moderate hike. This is a must. Not a lot of people which for me is even better!

Was a good hike. Easy with kids, saw a few dogs on the trail. All in all a good day.

Definitely rocky so expect a technical hike. I'm an out of shape hiker and completed it with no major issues. Definitely a challenge though I had to stop for breaks

Trail was muddy due to remaining snow from yesterday. Despite the overcast weather, the views were still beautiful.

Beautiful view from the overlook. I took this trail further along the AT to Spout Run. It made for a very nice close to 6 mile out and back hike with 1,400 feet in elevation gain and 2 water features. Well worth it.

Perfect short hike for kids and new hikers. Lovely view at the overlook!

Great hike. Lots of rocks
