Note that the trailhead has been moved to Barnes visitor center. Great trails, but still some snow about 3000ft that was annoying. Amazing scramble to get to summit. Really like this introduction to the VT 4k.

Quick and rewarding hike but the rock steps will kick those legs into gear!!. Lots of beautiful little babbling streams makes this a very peaceful hike. I loved it. Take some more caution going down because those rocks can get slippery. The parking lot will fill up fast though even on a weekday so getting there early is a good idea. Definitely take the time to go to Spruce Peak and south on the LT to get some great views of Mansfield.

Great hike. Somewhat busy trail during the week, but worth it. Parking can be hard to find during busy times.

When you see hell and profanity on the map you know it’ll be a great hike. Starts off steep and leads to rewarding views all along Mt. Mansfield. It started raining when we were at the top so we took the Gondola down-I wouldn’t want to go back down in a downpour. The way to the Gondola was intense enough.

Awesome hike. Best one I’ve done on the east coast.

Fun, moderate hike

The trail condition was somewhat difficult today, the snow was semi hard and the path has been trampled, so hard with snowshoes. Was a beautiful day though and not too windy nor cold ! Long walk from the winter parking to the beginning of the trail. Will try again this summer !

Poorly marked for hiking in the snow, overall pretty challenging hike, but totally worth it at the top.

We hiked with microspikes and it was Great! We stopped just below the chin because of poor visibility. Tried to go up Profanity, but after just 5 or so minutes, the trail was unbroken and very deep snow instead.

Very windy at the top with little to no visual when we went, but still a great hike. Definitely bring yourself lots of water! Due to the traffic coming up (as we were trying to go down) and grounds being wet, took profanity back down to attempt and bypass some people and to be more covered from the winds.

bit muddy and wet. crazy views througout the hike. some tricky rock scramble sections. very well marked.

Nice hike. Hells brook ascent to the Adam's apple and chin was definitely a rigorous but rewarding climb.

Great fun challenging “moderate” trail. We did the loop around the pond. Do NOT rely on this app map only. The trail has been rerouted in the last 8 yrs so it looks like you are bushwhacking for a bit north of the shelter. The loop trail starts right at the shelter unlike on the app map! Trust your gut and sense of direction... great hike

good hike and the lake is pretty. but it is a tough moderate hike as it is all climbing with minimal flat stretches but I enjoyed it

Love this hike. Have done it twice. Bring lots of water. First time I did it with my husband and we went at a pretty good clip. Felt very accomplished when done and views are outstanding. Coming back was harder than going up as our knees were grumbling we are both over 50).

Second time did it with a bunch of girlfriends and it was wet and super foggy. Two girls turned around early on. The rest of us turned around probably less than halfway in. Must have good hiking shoes. Ideally you want boots as your ankles will be screaming at you on the way back.

Go but be prepared. You want hiking boots, water, something warm for up top plus a snack.

This is a tough climb and a tougher descent. Beautiful views

conditions : wet + windy + leaves
Trail : loop starting from ccc road @ up maple ridge @ long trail (forehead to chin) @ down sunset ridge
stats : 5h (including breaks) / 12km / 867m
cost : 4$ US per person, they also accept Canadian money.
This is my 4th hike ever (my biggest yet), it was a great personnal challenge.
Great advice from the park ranger : start going up maple ridge in these wet conditions, it would've been very dangerous going down those slippery rock walls.
Very hard on the knees going down such technical terrain, using hiking poles normally help but the ground is so irregular we could use them only near the bottom.

Thought it was a fun hike, the lake was really lovely and as it was foggy, the view was rather suggestive. Make sure you do the loop around the lake as that makes it more fun and helps enjoying the lake views further from other angles

Steep incline from Mountain Rd. Trail can get wet and a bit slippery. We did the loop around the pond and met back up with the long trail to come back down. The trail around the pond was very interesting. Cool to see the ski lifts and top of the ski trails! Went with a dog - off leash most of the time and did great, but had to keep her on leash the whole way down from the long trail to the parking lot - VERY CROWDED! constant stream of people coming up.

There is a reason it has the word hell in the name!Hardest trail in Vermont! Need good footwear and start early in the day. Many stops made due to the 90 degree day and no cloud cover. The trail connects into long trail at the Adam's apple cutoff.

Very tough hike! Definitely a difficult rating, parts of Hike were rock climbing along cliff edge. It is all up hill and then all downhill on return trip. We went up Long trail to summit, then came down on Profanity trail. Profanity trail is very steep but much more protected than Longs.

A harder trail but worth the effort. Made a nice morning hike that much more.

This trail requires a moderate effort if you just climb up to the pretty lake. More effort for the Spruce Peak viewpoint and lot's of effort out to Elephant Head Vista. Optional walk around Spruce Lake is not worth the effort.

Profanity trail was filled with water all along and it was slippery. Good, hiking shoes are recommended. View from the chin is amazing.

Beautiful pond and the hike wasn't quite as busy as I expected. I would guess it's more like 3.5 miles there and back.

Challenging hike but well worth it!! Had a glorious day to head up..took the long trail up and the profanity trail down..I recommend this route. The view is stunning!!

Great hike and views, though highly trafficked on the Sunset Ridge portion. Would recommend going counter-clockwise, as others have reported.
