Just a quick FYI... do not be intimidated by hard rating on this. It is not hard. Intermediate only because of length. Seriously, unless you’re a little out of shape, or a beginner, this is in no way a challenging hike in my opinion. Best “grade” comparison would be white pine lake, but shorter. The view is a dang joke. Phenomal. Literally. All lakes are awesome. Bring some climb8ng shoes also for a little bouldering. You can also summit sundial fairly quickly. In my opinion, one of the best hikes in all of Utah. So worth it on every level.

Hiked the trail on 10/22. More of a gradual incline with no parts that were very difficult. Was about 2 hours up with a few breaks. Worst ice on the trail was about 2 miles up, the last 1/4 mile the ice was easily avoidable. Lake was beautiful at the top.

Awesome trail! First bit (1.75 miles) was a breeze! The second half was on the steeper side, but definitely doable. There was an icy patch (the last quarter of a mile). We were smooth sailing with spikes and poles, but we saw people get by with sliding. We JUST missed some moose sightings, but the lake itself was BEAUTIFUL! It took us just under two hours up!

Great hike. I began at 11am-ish, and by that time there were many others hiking the trail and a challenge to find parking. The remaining snow made some spots slick, but nothing difficult.

When I got to the second bridge, I did not cross. Instead I stayed on the left side of the water and followed others’ footsteps. This was a little steep, slippery and dodgy. I got to a point where I stopped seeing footsteps. I suddenly got a wild hair and crossed over the water. On my way back down I remained within an earshot of the water. I did not find any footsteps for a while but when I finally did the snow was a foot deep with every step. Right before I got to the bridge I fell into about what seemed to be 2 feet of snow. Laughable...that’s what I get for having that wild hair, I guess.

I’ll definitely return but next time I’ll try using the right side of the water after crossing the second bridge. I feel that I missed something by not crossing the second bridge.

Very cool hike. The waterfall is flowing very nicely right now (10/21), so the view is pretty dang impressive. The trail along the way is great - quiet, peaceful, and a nice view. The elevation gain is gradual and the trail itself is well kept.

Once you hit the second bridge, definitely listen to the previous posts and stay to the right-hand side of the water. You can follow others’ footsteps, but really all you need to do is stay within eyeshot/earshot of the water to not get lost. The actual trail on the left side was impossible to traverse to the base of the falls due to the snow and ice.

One of my favorite views of the Wasatch Range is from this peak. It’s really not a difficult hike, once you get up to Catherine Pass, follow the trail to the right for only another half mile or so up to the peak. If the Alta summer road is open, you can park for free at the trailhead if you get in before 7am.

Some snow on the trail (October 13), doable without crampons or microspikes but definitely faster and more fun with them! :) Gorgeous weather, aspens are still yellow and falling, lots of snow on the peaks and the lake is starting to freeze over! Wore a tank top on the way up but was pretty cold at the top and bundled up for the way down. Less than two hours up and about an hour to run down (with photos :). Love this hike!!

First time up and I was nervous. Turned out not to be so bad. First mile and a half is a fairly easy incline last mile I had to stop and go slow. That is also where the icy parts are that were doable with poles. We also had a Welcome committee 3 moose (1 Bulls and 2 cows). There are 2 really rocky sections as well. Totally worth it. Its just beautiful.

Went up today. Not sure why it’s rated hard, I would rate it moderate. Used crampons when I got above the bridge. Very nice hike, this trail would be great in the summer with all the shade. Very beautiful when you get up around 7500 feet.

Beautiful trail!! It took me just under 2 hours to get to the top (took a few breaks). The trail isn’t extremely hard or anything it’s just long/has a consistent moderate incline. There are some icy patches right now but they were doable without poles. It was gorgeous at the top and there were a few baby moose!

It was definitely difficult for me, though I did it roundtrip in 3 hrs and 30 mins. Trail was well marked and very nice! The view was beautiful with snow on the mountains! Trail does have a bit of snow when you start getting higher up.

Great! Last 1/4 mile is covered in ice as of 10-19; it’s easy getting around it while ascending but you’ll easily fall descending if you don’t bring spikes or poles.

beautiful scenery. but be careful, it is very icy right now and very difficult to hike without poles or spikes. I almost fell twice on the way down.

Tough trail if you’re not in shape — uphill the entire first half, and pretty steep. Also, the trail was already coated in ice, which made the going slow toward the top (especially on the way down). Poles or chains recommended. But the view at the top was gorgeous, the lake was so serene — and we had two wild moose sightings (from a safe distance)! Highly recommend, just be prepared.

Very much a tough trail if you are not in shape. The trail is very rocky and hilly but well traveled. Take plenty of water and take plenty of breaks to keep from getting winded.

It was steep but the view was pretty cool once you get there. We backpacked so we hiked at night and woke up to a beautiful fall view. Did it about 1.5 weeks ago

Not a hard hike. Pretty moderate in my opinion. If you want to get adventurous though, scramble the face of pioneer peak and then head over to sunset and loop down. Really windy at top, but fun.

Beautiful! It was snowing lightly when we got there but the view was breathtaking! We only went a couple miles and headed back due to the pavement ending, and the ground was super wet. If you’re a photographer, this place is a goldmine.

I wish I had more time at the top. Absolutely peaceful lake and views. Hike was very enjoyable. I want to go back in the fall!

Awesome hike. The fall colors were gorgeous today (10/3/2018)! When you get to the river, take the little switchback on your left. It will lead you to the 2nd bridge. Do as the others have suggested and take an immediate left and bushwhack (okay, that’s a bit of hyperbole) your way up to the waterfall along the right side of the creek. I’m not sure if we took the easiest way, but we had a great time climbing and working our way to Gloria Falls that last .2 miles. Tricky but doable for my two kids (12,10) with gross motor issues. We saw another family there with twin 7 year olds, a 4 year old, and a 2 year old. Their mom says this is their favorite fall hike. It’s now one of ours!!!

Moderate to strenuous hike. Shaded the whole way. Nice fall colors. Good destination.

Make sure you follow the trail to the other two lakes next to Lake Blanche. A beautiful view of the surrounding mountains. Well worth the trek.

So...I kinda had mixed thoughts on this hike, but still thought it was good. I was actually kinda underwhelmed by Lake Blanche...the actual lake. That being said I thought that the two smaller lakes on the backside of Lake Blanche we're alot more picturesque probably because of you look down on those two lakes....or at least you first do. The other thing about this hike that is pretty cool right now are the fall colors. I have to admit that I hit this hike a little too late. If I would have done it a month or two ago the lake would have been more full and the waterfall on the backside of lake Blanche would have been bigger. Last but not least this was a pretty good workout.....at least for me it was.

Gorgeous fall colors!! Start early (before dawn) because this hike gets extremely busy/crowded as the morning goes on.

Well worth it. The lakes are gorgeous.

I wouldn't call this trail "hard" at all, just a bit rough on the knees and the fact that you're constantly dodging rocks on the trail.

The fall colors and the wind rushing through the trees with this insanely nice weather is worth the trip in itself. The views are of course gorgeous. I saw a few Mountain Goats and Mule Deer along with some trout in the stream leading to one of the lakes but no Moose this go round.

I fell in love with this trail! I’m a bigger girl and it was very difficult but the most rewarding hike I have been on.

Hiked this yesterday. Beautiful fall colors. Although it was all uphill, there really weren't any super steep spots. We went in the morning so lots of shade in aspen grove almost to the top. Sunny on way down but shaded areas. Lake Blanche was beautiful. it was rather windy with strong wind gusts at the top so only cold there.
