The trail is rocky and sandy so I wore Chaco sandals, they were an excellent choice for me. The trail is pretty easy with varied terrain but we saw a huge rattle snake on the way up. It’s not very covered so wear sunscreen. We did this on day 1 of a three day southern Utah hiking trip and it was the perfect way to start the trip.

The hike to the look out is very rocky and not much to look at, but the overlook once you get there is AMAZE!! Pretty easy hike, just annoying as it feels like you’re walking through a dried up river.

Absolutely stunner view and what a payoff! The approach is quite muggy and hotter than surrounding areas. The payoff was stunner and we spent an hour alone there. Good option for those with a 4 legged friend that are blocked out of zion.

Great hike, the view was amazing!

Fun little hike for the kids. Make sure to follow the stacked rocks to get there. Kids loves running around in the vortex!

Great hike! The first mile maybe difficult for those with back or stability issues. It does level out and is worth the breath taking views at the top. Take a lunch and relax for a bit at the top.

as stated the hike itself isn't particularly thrilling or difficult but the view is beyond worth the walk. It's seriously breathtaking. The first bit of the trail is really rocky before becoming more sandy later on.

Awesome view!

A great early morning hike. Lots of rocks and sand, but an easy climb and a spectacular view. What a payoff. Sunrise is best.

Great gem, along with the Camelback it is a fun place to explore.

Very nice hike for those who like exercise. Beautiful trail with a big payoff view at the end.

Moderate hike. Lots of sand & climbing over rocks. Get there early before sun comes out.

Seriously so beautiful. I went off trail a little bit and found a small oasis; it was beyond breathtaking.

Trail is sand and rock/boulder wash. Several places of shade to drink and take a break. The view of the mountains is beautiful. Leave early am in hot weather. Lizards, rabbits, birds, egg shells and flowering trees and plants right now. We took about 2 1/2 hours round trip, leasurely pace.

on The Vortex

This trail is beautiful. There are no signs do The Vortex may be hard to find. the trail starts with lsva rock and dirt, as you go down the hill. Once on flat land you reach a dry riverbed and sand. You'll see some boulders and rocks across from you, with a sandy trail leading up, take that until you reach slick rock. Hug the right wall as much as you can. Follow the carens, the Vortex is on the upper right. Good luck!

as has been said it is poorly marked on the trail and on this app as well, if you stop where the trail as marked on the app is you wouldn't reach the canyon walls. gotta keep walking

Nice trail, good to get an early start!

Great hike!

The views could not be better. The first mile and a half is forgettable but after that was enjoyable, fun, and soul inspiring. First part is mostly rock and dirt, then dirt and sand, then slip rock, and then mostly sand to the overview of Ivins and the lower Snow Canyon. If you plan on doing an out and back be in good shape or make sure you have plenty of time, probably both!

One of the best hikes in southern Utah and a great alternative if you want to skip the crowds at zion! BEAUTIFUL and a fairly easy hike that makes it enjoyable and not too hard!

Awesome views. Don’t go In the heat as there is no shade! We went when it was overcast and it was perfect

Beautiful trail! Mostly walking through wash and rocks. can get tricky in some areas, but fairly smooth going. went with my daughter and she enjoyed climbing while I was fine reading on a rock and watching... so definitely something for all skill levels.

I’ve done this hike several times in the past year, and I absolutely love it. I always bring my dog with me and he seems to love it more than I do. The trail is rocky, but not too steep. The top is absolutely breathtaking.

The trail is not that exciting but the ending view is breathtaking. Perfect trail to bring dogs and older children. Last year, we took our 5 and 8 year old boys. The well worn trail ends at the cliff but you can walk along the cliff to get different vantage points. It’s one of those unreal vistas that feel like you are standing in a painting. One of my favorites in Southern Utah for sure.

Definitely my favorite hike. I got bored at school yesterday so I ditched to go on a I hike. I ended up doing this one with my dog. Even though I do this hike all the time, it is still one of the prettiest views I’ve ever seen at the top. The entire city of Ivins is laid out before you like a patchwork quilt. It most definitely is one I’ll be repeating for years to come.

Decent trail! Poorly marked but absolutely beautiful views.

I for some reason had a heck of a time navigating this trail. It is not marked. And that’s fine, not everything has to be marked, just make sure you really know where you are going before you head out, because it would be very easy to get lost or cliffed out in this area. The vortex is really cool though. I went in early September and it was over 100 degrees, no shade, so make sure to bring sun protection and water.

Amazing hike, view is well worth it! Just make sure to wear some good shoes or hiking boots, the trail consists of some real rocky terrain
