Overall a relatively easy and pleasant trail. While it did follow along the I-70, there were plenty of interesting sights and scenery to enjoy. One spot had a tree fallen across the trail but was easy to climb over to continue, and the trail was somewhat overgrown, but it did not affect the hike. There were cut offs also to make the hike shorter if you wish. Recommended!

3 main rock art formation groups on this trail: 1 Sheep shelter: a barred-off cave with a dusty mirror showing some rock art above the interior entrance 2 Indian Blanket: so far away on the cliffs across the highway that you can barely see the details. Binoculars required. 3 Emergence Continuation / Water Panel: Elaborate scenes in relatively good condition compared to the rest of the park. You can get up close and examine the details 3/5 instead of 2/5 only because the stories behind Indian Blanket, Emergence Continued and Water Panel were so fascinating. Make sure to get the guide sheet at the visitor center!

There are 31 hands in different shades of red in a cave sealed off with prison-style bars. Walk a quarter mile, take your picture, walk a quarter mile back, done. No other rock art on the path. As others have mentioned, there is a parking area down the road for this trail and you don't need to haul from the visitor center as shown in the Alltrails map.

Even armed with the visitor center guidesheet showing elaborate pictures and Alltrails GPS waypoints, I was not able to find any of the cliff carvings mentioned in the guide. I had reception and even tried googling for help, and only came across blog posts from others who had trouble. I mean, I'm sure the cliff art was there, but it was way too faint to detect without knowing exactly where to look, and unlike the other trails there were no guide posts. That said, the guide sheet explanation of the cultural significance of the valley was fascinating, and it was cool to stand in the middle of the valley and see how it's experienced it in that regard (I'll let you read for yourself and won't spoil the fascinating story!)

Walking

Short, paved walk with native rock art. This trail had the highest concentration of petroglyphs of the 5 hikes I tried in the park. That said, unfortunately time had taken its toll on the rock art and the petroglyphs aren't as vivid and vibrant and you may have seen elsewhere. You can borrow an explanatory guide sheet from the visitor center for some good explanations of what you're looking at, which bumped this from 3/5 to 4/5 for me.

The trail is not as long as pictured because there is a parking lot on the road closer to the cave. You don’t need to walk from the visitor center. The hike is mainly a flat walk along a barbed wire fence. The cave wasn’t anything great. The name is misleading because we only counted about 27 hands.

Interesting archeological/historical site, but not much of a hike. You are along the highway. The woman in the Visitor Center was very helpful and informative.

Hiked from the visitor center and almost missed the road crossing because I wasn't paying attention. I seen hand prints on rock but never this many.

Very easy, very fast trail. My kids loved the cave and the lizard we saw on our way there.

It is an Indian cave. I used to hike to this as a kid. They had to put up bars at the opening of the small cave to prevent vandals from ruining the hind prints. Nice hike for kids and not dangerous at all. Worth seeing.

Great little trail for the kids. There are not 100 hand prints... :( it's more like the Cave of 10 hands and some really faded not sure it's Indian Cave... :)

love the history and connection with the area. Disheartening to see the selfishness of people defacing treasures.

I like this hike. This short stroll is well worth the time and effort to see this amazing cave. The color, still easily discernible, of each hand print is stunning.
