Description
Dead Horse Point State Park will leave visitors breathless of the 2,000-foot mesa overlooking the Colorado River and vertical cliffs and red-rock canyon formations carved by millions of years. The rock layers were created by ancient oceans, lakes, streams and sand dunes. Dead Horse Point is a peninsula or rock on top of a sandstone cliff connected by a narrow strip of land called the neck. Legend goes that the point was used as a corral for wild mustangs. The cowboys would round up the horses to the point. One day, the horses were left on the point and died of thirst above the Colorado River. The plants and animals in the area have adapted to the scarcity of water and extreme temperatures of the desert environment. Most of the animals are nocturnal and plants grow slowly here. What will you explore and find at Dead Horse Point?
