historic site

This landscape was eroded into canyons, buttes, and mesas by the Colorado River, Green River, and their tributaries. The park is divided into four districts by the rivers. There are rock pinnacles and other naturally sculpted rock, as well as artifacts from Ancient Pueblo Peoples.

Amazing run in this crater canyon Feeling being in another world. There is one portion where you have to climb so just take your time to pass through nothing very difficult.

Okay, it is windy. But it is an easy trail with views for days. Really amazing - esp. at sunset!

Not great in winter - snow and ice makes it hard (and dangerous) to climb up and down the rock. Otherwise, amazing views! Short scramble up.

This place/hike is amazing. I actually did this back in 2015. I had to follow a blog post someone had posted on the directions to the false kiva but that made it more fun. It was like a scavenger hunt! There are some loose rocks on the trail so be careful and wear proper footwear. But the views are stunning and the whole hike was so awesome. My husband was so happy that I took him there. What an amazing experience.

We went in January - lots of snow and ice. Found it a bit boring. Scenery in the park is epic but for 4 miles of this hike you are stuck down in a canyon. Two highlights were seeing a herd of deer and seeing a frozen waterfall. Otherwise, it was just drudging in snow. And one part was a hilariously icy scamper up rock cliff. Wouldn’t want to do that twice!

This is a great little hike to an iconic arch in the Canyonlands experience. Parking is convenient but during the middle of the day the arch will be receiving many visitors as it is quite a tourist attraction. And if you're adventurous enough to rise early and catch the classic sunrise through the arch, you'll have plenty of photographers to keep you company. Happy hiking!

Easy little stroll with great views.

This was a fun hike, and perfect place to stop and lunch. Had a lot of fun hopping from rock to rock, until we landed on the "whale" . You can get a decent view of Upheaval Dome.

Beautiful at sunset

Beautiful view at the end, well marked trail.

Terrific hike on a mid December day. We walked out to the edge of the plato and down the canyon. There are a bunch of old Uranium minds down near the bottom. Such a cool and interesting walk. I can't imagine doing this hike in the summer. There is no shade and no water.

As a winter hike this was gorgeous. Some ice and snow in the north-facing areas at the bottom of the canyons, but the trail was already stomped out by a few hikers before us.

Some exposure and 3rd class climbing moves to get into and out of canyons, and one ladder to climb on the trail. Otherwise great views the entire way!

Beautiful

Did this trail on a perfect sunny day. 28 degrees at the start and the temp rose to 50. The sun isn't up long and never got to high so there was some snow on parts of the trail that traversed some ledges. I never felt like I was taking to much of a risk, but I brought minor spikes just in case (never put them on). This trail has it all... ledges, canyons... Never saw a person on the trail. I can't imagine doing this hike in the middle of summer as the heat would make it very difficult. The end of the trail is the best part so don't cut it short... (I won't spoil it for you). I would say we walked 30% on sand and 70% on bedrock. Sand is only loose for the first quarter mile.

Very challenging. I would go clockwise rather than counter clockwise.

Loved the view! Quick and easy hike with a great view. The trail was snowy and icy at points but completely walk-able with just our hiking boots (no poles or shoe grips).

Loved the hike, easy, with great views. It was a bit difficult at times to see the cairns but we were able to get back on the trail. Icy and snowy at parts but we were fine with our hiking boots (no trek poles or shoe grips).

This is an awesome hike with several unique features. Most books describe hikes to either Chesler Park or Druid Arch, but combining both hikes makes for a great day. Just take plenty of water. Several in our group ran out.

Drove to Castle Arch trailhead, which is about as far as one could drive. Hiked to Castle and Fortress Arches. The main obstacle to driving is deep sand, which is present all along the route. I had no trouble in my 4Runner after airing down, but the ranger told me a Jeep got stuck a couple of days earlier. It was an amazing trip. My only regret was not having more time to explore.

Hiked it for my second time yesterday. Awesome terrain and my hat is off to the great people who laid it out and maintain it.

Great sunrise spot. The glow of the sun on the arch is beautiful. The view of canyons behind the arch is also lovely. The trail is very short and takes less than 20 minutes to walk to the arch and easy to follow. Going in mid November was great to miss the crowds but there was still about 10 of us at the arch for sunrise

This is a looonnnng one for our family, but fun one. There are many twists and turns. Once reaching the Park, the landscape changes and the view becomes expansive.

The trail is not terribly challenging, but requires some planning and stamina. There are some narrow canyons along the way. Nothing was insurmountable.

Enjoy!

Worth hiking this trail to the end as it provides views on the other side of the mesa too! For more details and pics, visit https://etbtravelphotography.com/2018/11/20/best-hikes-canyonlands/

I think the better views are at the second overlook, but most people stop before then. Interesting and different from the rest of the park. For more details and pics, visit https://etbtravelphotography.com/2018/11/20/best-hikes-canyonlands/

Simple Trail with a few signs indicating surrounding vegetation. Nice view of canyon through arch. For more details and pics visit: https://etbtravelphotography.com/2018/11/20/best-hikes-canyonlands/

Beautiful hike! The only reason to do the entire loop is if hiking through the Joint is important to you. It is similar to a slot canyon. Otherwise doing the shorter hike to the overlook provides all you need to see of the needles as the return on the longer hike gets a little dull around mile 9. Otherwise, it is a great hike including flat parts and scrambling. For more details and pics visit https://etbtravelphotography.com/2018/11/20/best-hikes-canyonlands/

One of the most amazing views is at sunrise. Definitely worth getting up early for!
