From the trailhead it was an 7 mile out and back. We reached the trailhead via a rocky steep gravel/sand/mud track which was pot holed and rocky. It lead from Rockville over an old Parker Bridge. The trail was sandy and rocky but well marked (don't confuse the trail with a dry wash which runs alongside and crosses the trail at times) being a desert of juniper and pine with flowering cacti. We saw black-chinned hummingbirds feeding on the flowering cacti. Looking north from our destination underneath eagle crag was a stunning view of Zion and its canyons.

Awesome hike. Not a lot of water but I highly recommend this hike.

I’ve done this hike twice now. The first time we hiked up the river, the second we used the path as far as we could go without needing ropes. Beautiful hike, walking down the river is super fun, lots of obstacles but we found a few small waterfalls with pools big enough to swim in

Really nice trail, beautiful views, easy to follow, some sandy some rocky sections. Fairly shaded which is nice for the dogs. About half way through after a good climb the trail starts to head slightly down and cuts along the side hill. There’s one section where it almost looks like the trail ends but step over the down tree and look for a Carin, continue in the same direction as before. This section is exposed to the sun and less well worn, but still decent to follow. I turned around after about a mile following it because it was getting to be too hot for the dogs. Beautiful views, worth doing. Road to get there was a little bumpy and steep at the beginning but no need for 4 wheel. Nice parking lot and map at the trailhead.

Absolutely stunning! I’ve hiked this canyon many times, and it never disappoints.

The trail is great. Getting there and back in my Ford Fiesta was an adventure that I will not repeat. There are a lot of good trails around here that don’t require a high profile vehicle. If you are determined to get there then have a go but be careful.

Great trail. We hiked it to climb the towers on top of the ridge. Amazing views and fairly moderate. Made it to the trailhead with my low-clearance passenger car.

We didn't actually get to the trailhead. The road got worse and worse, and we ended up turning back. A high clearance vehicle would probably work. Giving in 3 stars for the awesome view of Zion on the way up to the trailhead.

I hiked this trail in mid December and it was perfect weather outside. Although this trail is measured at 5.9mi, my gps mapped it at 8.64. Its not marked well towards the end. I think that the windmill trail is supposed to be an out and back. It seemed like if you follow this routing it takes you through the bowls and ledges trail as well. However, it was quite nice. If you park at the first parking lot instead of the windmill trailhead, this loop will take you right to it. There are some absolutely beautiful views of the rim. Also, i'm not really sure why this is rated as moderate, unless its just for the distance. I would rate this on the higher end of easy because there isn't much elevation gain and the tail is very well kept. Its perfect for taking a dog out. All in al, not bad and definitely beautiful views. ENJOY!

Challenging hike for our 5 kids (ages 4 to 11) due to constant up and down the trail goes along the base of the canyon. The kids also had some problems getting through the somewhat over grown vegetation. Don't miss the arch on the east canyon wall! Personally it was a great 1/2 day hike for us adults and the scenery was amazing. Low traffic made the hike very enjoyable.

The map on here does not actually reflect the trail, but rather the dirt road leading to it. About 2/3 of the way down the dirt road, the road was completely washed out. Before then, there were some sketchy parts as well, but passable as long as you're careful. We opted to park our small car at the head of this dirt road instead. It's about a 1.8 mile walk to Water Canyon Trailhead. Water Canyon Trail is marked at 1.5 miles each way (at least until you reach the canyon part itself...it does go beyond this with canyonerring opportunities). Getting to the end is worth every step. It has cool temperatures once you reach the canyon, and it's beautiful; very unique. Would definitely do this if I'm ever in Utah again!

This was an absolute awesome canyon and lightly traveled. We did canyoneering through here and it was a ton of fun. Interested twists and turns, stunning views, and interesting drops. Would definitely recommend this spot and can't wait to go back.

avoid the crowds at Zion. Hike next to Zion in the wilderness!

Great off the beaten path trail and you can bring your pup!

Almost 5 star. Drive the speed limits posted; you do NOT want to be pulled over in this neck of the woods.

This trail requires scrambling over rocks and has recently been the scene of flash flooding. The surrounding gulch seems to evidence real time geological changing (you can see where there have been several slides). It's amazing that the trail is still there and not disappeared. Very nice end-point with lush garden, including ferns, moss, and hanging garden from cliffs. The walls as you approach the narrows do look reminiscent of the The Subway in Zion. We were unable to climb up because of the flow of water. There was also a cool fissure in the ground which was completely full of water--about 3' wide and at least 8' deep (couldn't see bottom). Stay left & high on the trail--the numerous spurs off it going to the right just go to the creek. There is at least one place that looked impassable but by walking around a bit you can see where the foot prints are and where to scramble around it.

This hike can be extended by hiking up to Water Canyon then continuing up a trail to the left side of the canyon and hiking around to the east to Squirrel Canyon and back to the starting point.

The trail is actually located just outside Hildale, Utah .... Not Hurricane.
The road to the trailhead is not maintained and may be impassible in bad weather. A high clearance is a must!
It is a popular trail for the local community and also used for rappelling training. Very busy in the summer. Parking can be an issue when it's busy. Don't park where you can be blocked in or u may have a wait when you are ready to leave!
No garbage service at the trailhead so you pack it in.....you pack it out. Do not allow your pet companions to defecate in or near the stream bed. It's a water source for the local community. ( I have seen it happen.)
It is a beautiful area and a nice hike. It is also the starting point for the Tears Drop and Natural Bridge hikes which are much more strenuous but have stunning views of the surrounding canyons. Enjoy!

It's a nice hike with beautiful views. There's more than 650 ft of elevation gain..... It goes up and down and up and down over several ridges. You get a beautiful view of Zion and Springdale.
