Description

Ray Roberts Lake State Park is an extensive 30,000-acre reservoir that includes nine units, but only three are developed: the Isle du Bois unit, Johnson Branch unit, and Greenbelt Corridor. This park is sure to have something for everyone in your family or friend group. The Isle du Bois unit is located on the south side of the lake and opened in 1993. The Johnson Branch unit is on the north side of the lake and opened in 1996. The Greenbelt Corridor is a 20-mile multi-use trail and it opened in 1999. There are six satellite parks which include the Jordan Unit, Pond Creek, Pecan Creek, Buck Creek, Sanger, and Elm Fork. This area includes Wildlife Management Areas, wetlands, and waterfowl sanctuaries. Visitors can camp, hike, bike, camp, horseback ride, geocache, swim, paddle, take photography, nature watch, or backpack - all at the Ray Roberts Lake State Park! The lake is 29,000 acres and has all types of fish for anglers, including: crappie, catfish, and white bass. There is a full service marina with boat storage which includes rentals. The 20-mile Greenbelt Corridor runs from the Ray Roberts Dam to Lake Lewisville, and there are 12-miles for equestrian use, and 10-miles are specifically for hiking and bike use. Jordan Branch and Isle du Bois have some paved trails. The park is in the Eastern Cross Timbers and it has three ecoregions giving life to more than 300 species of plants. The Eastern Cross Timbers is filled with dense groves of oak trees, cedar elm, and winged elm. There are also pocket prairies. The different ecosystems support all types of wildlife, including: deer, opossums, rabbits, bats, beavers, coyotes, and bobcats. There are also a variety of fish, birds, insects, and reptiles.
