Activities include camping; lake swimming (unsupervised); fishing; boating (no skiing/tubing, or jet skis permitted); rock climbing (climbers and rappelers must check in at headquarters); mountain biking; equestrian camping, horseback riding (visitors must provide their own horses); and hiking. Note: Trails may be closed during wet weather. Climbing is prohibited when the rock formations are wet (Call the park to verify climbing area is open, if it has rained in the last 48 hours of your planed arrival.) Family friendly with some great views of the lake. We really enjoyed this trail. Be sure to take water!

One of the most boring trails I’ve ever been on. We did a little over 3 miles from the trail head and turned back. I guess it’s ok if you live nearby otherwise do anything but go on this trail.

Very nice hiking area.

Gorgeous areas to free climb. Beautiful scenery with hidden caves and small gorges sprinkled all around. I recommend it.

Cool trail system. The west side is a lot of sand trails that are good for your knees. The east side has the most interesting trail in my opinion that is along lake leading to the overlook/rock climbing area. You can easily do all the trails in one day hike.

The trail is clearly marked, although many people have created off-shoots. The trail is primarily rock with some sand, so your eyes will be glued to the trail to forego tripping. The trail comes alongside the water in several places, making it a great trail, albeit short.

This is a fun trail especially if you like to rock climb. The trail can get tricky after a heavy rain. There is a dock along the trail that you can fish from. We hike this trail several times a month and love it.

We're beginners and it's a very hot day. That made it difficult to get through the very rocky and sandy areas, but it's a nice trail, well cleared and maintained. I saw a roadrunner, a rabbit and 3 deer. I look forward to cooler weather and increased fitness when doing this trail next time.

nice liesure trail

Amazing short trial! Don't pass this one up just because it doesn't look worth the trip. Great views, fun trail, rocks to climb and walk through. And a great scenic overview at the end.

Great park to hike in and bring your dog or dogs! Bring your climbing gear. The park has pre-installed climbing anchors for the public to use. Beautiful view's and excellent workout esp on a hot TX day!

Short trail but very cool!

this is a beautiful relatively short trail with plenty of great views of the lake. A few rock staircases, but you just need to watch your step. we'll definitely be going back for more!

Decent hikes. I would rate this moderate. Lots of stair like climbs and some small canyon areas. Most of the trails are shaded by trees and run along the lake. Not super busy but it was a weekday too. There are some great picnic and BBQ areas so bring food. $7/adult entry fee.

I'm sure it pretty. But $7 per person is absolutely ridiculous to charge for a family to go on a short hike. Sorry but I think not.

This park trail has a lot of options. I started on the black loop, at about 1.3 miles you can continue the loop back to the parking area or continue North on the green loop. As you go north several similar choices are available. I took the green loop then yellow to the road. Then purple north to the primitive camping area which was vacant at that time. I took the purple path all the way back to the parking area. The black and green loops are wide and flat, easy but not very interesting.
The yellow and purple paths are much better walks thru the woods. On the way back, the purple path crosses the black in two places giving you options. That part of the purple path nearest the parking area can be pretty challenging, it's narrow and rocky.
These choices resulted in a 5.0 mile hike that took about 1:45.

The area is nice. Not much of a trail to follow. But the area with the large rock cliffs was pretty, great place for rock climbing.

Red trail provided decent terrain and cool climbing rocks along trail. Not particularly challenging or long, but a nice way to start off a Sunday morning. On its own, not really worth the $7 entrance fee to the park, although the corsstimbers trails were closed due to rain. Took my dog and she loved it.

not a huge fan of the actual trail. not much too see if walking, I do believe this serves better as a horse trail. lots of soft sand and no shade. the park itself is nice and the rock climbing area is great.

I love this park! I went with a rock climbing group and we encountered many friendly people. Dogs are allowed. Not too crowded. Very well-kept park.

best trail in the Fort Worth area. It's hard to believe this type of park is so close to DFW. Very clearly marked and cleared trails, LOTS of rocka for climbing of all skill sets. My boys (both less than 5) loved climbing around on all the formations around penitentiary hollow. Definitely gonna make this a regular destination!

Well maintained rail-trail. Crushed stone construction. Portions of the trail closed due to storm damage. Easy hike. Kid and dog friendly. Wildlife viewing (quail and turkey). Bring plenty of water and bug spray during the hot months.

Really pretty me and my husband loved it!!! Highly recommended

the trails are closed after hard rains to keep erosion down and because they can't get vehicles back there in an emergency. it's best to call ahead in the rainy season to see if they are open; it can take a while for the trails to dry out properly.

Mountain biking & hiking. Beautiful. Had my first night ride here. Great fun! Saw a pack of wild boar, turkey & deer. The MTBiking is easy, lots of jeep trail. Some sandy sections. Single track. One section at farthest point on trail map, is more technical. Climb, descent & rocks!
