Pretty flat grassy area. Some of Trail is rutted due to horses and rain runoff. Nice trail though. Get out and hike!

Hiked on cloudy cool morning. Really nice hike especially the ice cream trail. Beautiful scenic views. Rocky but clean and wide trails. Bring plenty of water and take pictures. Nice lake. Get out and hike!

This trail was relatively easy. Took a side trip to the Comanche overlook. Great views of the Hill Country if Texas. Made this hike in mid June. Weather was hot and the humidity pretty high. Recommend an early morning start and carry plenty of water.

This was a great trail today. We did not take the pink trail "Ice Cream Hill Trail" but stayed on the green "Spring Branch Wilderness Trail" The pond on the back side of the trail has flooded the trail at that point. If you go in the next couple weeks, you should plan on taking "Ice Cream Hill Trail" the pink trail around the pond. Staff was super-friendly, and the area is beautiful.

Great hike. Parked at campground and started at spring branch trail which is a great moderate trail that spans the park area with some moderately strenuous sections. Trekking up twin peaks is great and once the trail levels off after a sharp left dogleg the trail hugs the first peak and to the left of the trail you will have awesome scenic views of the East and south sides of the park. Take pictures! After a moderately steep climb you will arrive at the West Peak Overlook trail which is challenging but will reward you with breathtaking views of park and many trails. There are four benches one can sit and view from at different locations on peak, look for them. The Third bench also has an elevation marker 1,868 ft. Take pictures! Once off peak and back at spring branch trail take it to the northwest toward wilderness trail. This section of the spring trail is moderately challenging but awesome. Arriving at wilderness trail you are on your way back to your vehicle. Trail is moderate. All trails are well marked and clean. I started recording a little late but we still did 3.8 miles.

Awesome trail.... moderate with elevation changes, well marked and clean. Remnants of previous ranch and oak oasis with good shade and birds during trail, great for viewing wildlife and just taking a breather to meditate with wilderness.

What a beautiful trail once you get to the top. A little rocky and a little steep at times but breath taking views. Our children aged 9 and 8 years old were able to do it without problems. Plan for no shade and take that into account when picking the time of day to hike.

Trail is awesome, well marked. Started at Maverick trail to wilderness to ice cream then spring branch to bandera back to start at headquarters. Some loose rocks on trail with steep climbs and decents but enjoyable.

Wonderful hike with my wife and dog. Low 70°F, hazy sun, wonderful day for a hike. Southern and western trails at the Texas Hill Country Natural Area were closed due to flooding. We only saw occasional mud, mostly perfect hiking.

Great trails well marked challenging with steep climbs. Madrone trail leads well to other trails, cougar canyon, vista ridge which has great scenic view of ice cream and the lake. From parking lot and back it’s over 9 miles using spring branch to start it.
