This was an awesome loop through Hill Country State Natural Area. I opted to add an extra mile by heading up to the top of West Peak Overlook. I HIGHLY recommend doing this if you have the energy, the views are excellent! That makes the whole loop about 8.5 miles, which is definitely a lot if you also include the Good Luck Trail option. All in all beautiful views, great trails, great length, super fun!

aka the medina loop. i personally wouldnt call it moderate. even going off trail was nice and easy. beautiful views and not very many people.

There are plenty of trails of different levels in this hiking pattern. However, there are additional loops that connect along the way some are easier while others may be more challenging. This I s what makes the very good to come back to. It is a very beautiful park with not much other hikers however plenty of nature. The trails are sometimes covered by trees and other times you will be in direct sunlight. Bring plenty of water, have a great hike

Nice trail, I like it,

We arrived and decided to do the Medina Loop trail. Perfect for us.

I had a lovely morning all by myself on this trail, saw several deer very close, an adorable armadillo, butterflies, lizards, and beautiful varied vegetation. The viewpoints were very nice, there is about 50/50 shade, but I definitely should have brought more than 2 liters of water!

If there had been more shaded areas that would accommodate the summer better, this would be a 5 star.

Trails were nice and trash free. We went during the weekday and saw only 1 other person. I highly recommend printing off maps from this. The map you get at the ranger station is not much help.

Best hiking trails if you like a challenge. Definitely intense

I really like this trail. I went out on trail 7, which is along the Bandera Creek and has quite a bit of cover and shade. I returned on trail 5 over the 3 peaks east of Ice Cream Hill, They were fairly steep with lose rocks. The best part is views. They are awesome!!

400 acres with many different trails of different difficulties. It was a very good hike and the landscape was beautiful. My friend and I camped and hiked 12 miles and the very friendly park rangers helped us understand details of the map. I would recommend this hike to anyone.

Fun, moderate trail, that is not crowded, with good views of the valley below at higher elevation. Typical Texas Hill county fauna and terrain.

Beautiful spot! We hiked several connected trails, at the recommendation of really enthusiastic rangers at headquarters. You'll get plenty of sun on some of the trails, so take precautions for that. I don't know if there was something wrong with the map or with us, but it wasn't clear exactly where Trail 5 went on a couple occasions, so we found alternatives that hooked us back up with 5 later. I tend to prefer to hike in Teva sandals; I'd recommend that you cover your toes a little more or bring hiking poles to help deal with the gravelly downhill portions. We saw all kinds of flora, but not much fauna. Coming from Houston, I was glad to be outside without the imminent threat of mosquitos, or the throngs of people and sounds that come with them. We spent around three hours out on the trails and only saw one other group out there. Highly recommend!

Hiked this one with my daughter some years ago. It was a pretty area, and challenging in places. My daughter chose the shortest of the mapped routes, since we were on a day trip. She learned a lot about topographic maps and what it means when the contour lines are close together that day!

My favorite park near San Antonio. It's very close and very fun park with different lengths of trails to explore. Be careful these trails enter twine or cross paths and you coukd take a wrong turn adding an hour to your hike. Bring a mspecial for sure. I especially like the elevation sign on the 5 trails going up to benches....love this. The views the trails and the feeling of wilderness is really at this park. You will feel free. I've been about 7 times now and have gone on the trail past a barn and rental on property to a long distance trail. Awesome.

Hike from second parking area then take #6 to 5b scenic overlook. It has 3 sets of benches and a elevation sign up there making the hike up a destination for lunch. You will cross over rocks and log stairs with shrubs and some trees for shade if needed. It's a short trail to top but you can make it longer coming back down by taking different turns. Take water if you do this because you can get thirsty quick.

I've run this area for 2 Ultra Marathons, the Cactus Rose 50 Mile'r and the Bandera 50k. These trails are NO JOKE! Really aggressive, but, absolutely AWESOME. Plenty of hills(I call them mt. everests) and great jeep trails and flatter ground. This place is just great.
