For a moderate trail this thing about killed me, but I loved it. The rocks are no joke. This is the trail I come back to when preparing for the rocks of Pennsylvania on the AT. Take extra water, take extra snacks.

it was fun but it is Rocky

Loved this trail

Nice trail to ride. Love the trail and the views.

The moderate classification is appropriate. There are some technical areas with gradual elevation climbs. but doesn't require you to stop and slowdown and climb up rocky points in the trail. There are a few good views and is a quiet trail for a 6+ mile trail run. Might have to do this loop backwards.

Great trails. Highly recommend wearing the right shoes. Those rocks will have your feet hurting.

Did the Joe Johnston trail with my husband and also a small part of the overlook trail - April 9 (or 10th??) 2018. I just brought tennies and the rocks were a little hard to walk on toward the end - my feet were tired and my ankles a little sore. We were jet lagged though with two hours of sleep. Dinosaur tracks were fun to see! I’m from the PNW so fun to see something a little different. Good little hike.

A flat but sometimes rocky trail that passes an ancient midden, dinosaur tracks and the an old rock house. A good introduction to the Canyon,

Enjoyed the wide trail from trailhead to the Zizelmann House and back(5.7mi). Parts of trail shaded probably a plus during sunny hot days. Able to take Recharge, Wildcat Canyon, Twin Oaks, and other trails off Joe Johnston.

Nice trail, well maintained. Several places have a lot of loose rocks.

A little challenging climb and pretty. No dogs allowed in this part of the park sadly

Technical areas but not difficult. Pretty run and less crowded until you are on the main trail that leads to dinosaur tracks.

Super easy trail not sure why it’s marked moderate! 4.90 from parking lot and back. I run this once a week and it’s super easy

Very nice trail. My kids and I did it in a little over 2 hours.

Partly shaded and very little elevation makes this a super easy run. Costs to enter state park. Dogs allowed in front country trails.

From hike on 22 July - Went up to Zizelmann House, then took Overlook Trail around and back to JJR. Nice trail, not too rocky, some good shade, and the Spanish Moss is fantastic. The view from Overlook Trail is exceptional.

challenging ride for sure. Lots of large rocks to climb and ride over.

Not too much shade and quite a bit of loose rocks. Not too much fun for people who dislike the heat and have bad ankles. Other than that...a decent hike that should be done early in the morning.

This had some pretty decent views and some rough terrain.

Very flat with little scenery and little shade. Bring sunscreen! Better for trail running than a scenic hike.

It was ok...had a pup with me so you can't go on any other trails. Flat, not much scenery.

I hiked this trail with my dog. It was a very hot, sunny day. This trail is about 70% sun 30% shade so the sun made it a little more challenging. It was an ok trail. A few areas that were nice with flowers, but no scenic overlooks

Great trail for an early morning. Wouldn't go in the late afternoon because there would be too much sun. I wore my running shoes here and that was a mistake. Lots of rocks and it happened to be misty out so it was slippery. I'll definitely wear my hiking boots for future hiking here.
