Very easy at the beginning, pretty flat. There were poppy flowers in some places. There isn’t shade and it is a bit of a long walk so make sure you’re prepared with plenty of water. When you get closer to the mines the trail is not as easy to find and gets steep. We ended up passing the entrance and only saw the metal grate...

Fun easy trail.

great hike but for me it was hard

Busy trail on a Saturday. Everyone was friendly and courteous. Lots of military hiking with mobility packs. walking the ridge lines avoids the many mountain bikes. Lots of gorgeous flowers today. Recommendation is to hike to the mines on one foot path and take a separate path back. Allow three hours.

Bring hats and sunscreen. And pay attention so you don’t miss the left turn at around .75 miles in. You need to turn under the power lines and head up a wash for about 300 feet to two pylons. The trail continued up from there.

Good solid trail. Directions can be slightly confusing on which is the most direct way to the mines, but AT map is really helpful. Trail that goes directly to the mines from the one level down is hidden/disguised as it's a bif rock step.
Great for first timers as there are multiple and easy side trails and the last leg is great for those who don't mind a bit of a challenge.
Also a great beginning hike for dogs - make sure they have plenty of water!

The trail starts in a “wash” that is super rocky for the first mile or so. After that it becomes more compact. It’s easy to navigate. And the opening at the GAO has great views of El Paso.

Did this hike today from the West-side. We parked a car at Chuck Heinrich park instead of going back across the mountain. We veered off a little on Trenchtown and came back to the main trail on Lazy Cow. Our GPS was close to 8 miles. Rocky in some areas, but beautiful views. One day we will make the longer hike and go back over the mountain but definitely not in the summer.

Easy to follow many little trials that branch out off the main trail. Pretty and nice place for meditation

Very nice hike! The beginning has lose rocks, needs stairs or railing in that section. Difficult coming down to get back to your vehicle.

Super small but took my 4yr old and 2 yr old and they loved it! Great trail for just getting them outside and enjoying nature.

This was a great trail. Lots of beautiful views. There are some parts that are challenging, but it is worth it. If you keep going on this trail you can get to the tin mines, but it is a 5 mile hike just to get there.

Family friendly hike.

This wasn’t the most scenic hike but definitely technical with lots of rocks uphill. Good if you want some exercise. The stone buildings (there were 2) are nice rest spots. Took me about 3 hours due to losing the trail every so often. No markings but follow the rock steps and use the all trails map with gps!

Moderate level. It was my first time hiking and I’m a bit out of shape so this trail was not easy for me. There were benches and some big rocks to stop and rest along the way. The last part of the trail getting to the cave was steep and rocky. Coming down was also scary because of the loose rocks. But it’s worth the views from the cave. I would recommend a walking stick.
