Nice hike. I did it as part of a hike to the top. I think the bridge that is mentioned in the description got washed out...you can see the wood and steel down on the mountain but the trail is nice. Great views for a short hike. The first 10-15mins are over loose gravel, after that, it’s mainly smooth dirt.

Great short trail with a good amount of ascending. The first section is so so, as it’s all loose rocks ranging from golf ball to base ball size. After the loose section you have dirt and is very enjoyable. Top views are amazing. You get both east and west perspectives. I banged out the ascend solo in 34 min with a light pack. Will do again. #WarchuckApproved.

Nice short hike, the last part is a little bit steep and slippery due to sand and loose gravel. I was going fast and it took me about 20mins to get up. The view is amazing and the caves are nice. Perfect for a quick hike.

Needs designated parking signs...but all in all an awesome hike!!

This was an amazing hike. It gets a little difficult towards the top going up and back down but still so fun! Even our dogs loved it! Make sure to bring lots of water and go earlier in the day as it gets very hot very quickly. You can also camp on the designated areas along the trail! Definitely will be going back!

This trail was very well marked and easy to follow. Lots of stairlike formations which makes it a little easier just tough on the knees.

I loved this trail. A little steep near the cave but well worth it!

the hike is quite boring, but the mine at the end is worth the trip

Gnarly and fun

Took my dogs on the trail. They loved it. No shade so they did get quite a bit thirsty. 10/10 would walk my dogs again.

Can’t wait to do this trail again

It was a nice trail. Easy to follow a bit rocky but I wouldn’t rate this trail as difficult more moderate. Lizards galore it was a nice sight

Second time doing this trail this time early morning to get to the top to watch the sunrise. It’s a tough hike and definitely some challenging spots. Sections that are steep and have loose rocks.

really fun trail to take the kids on.

Took my dogs out to find some good hiking trails since moving from Colorado. This trail is a nice one, a bit steep towards the caves, but beautiful views once you get to the top. Dogs loved the caves as well.

This was our first hike moving here to El Paso and we thought it was a great start! Definitely gets a little harder near the top due to elevation but it’s short enough to still enjoy without getting too tired. Very popular during the afternoon but if you go in the morning it seems to be clear!

Nice easy walk with some cool bird watching right at the start. Great for all ages.

Nice and fairly easy trail. I only logged 11 miles for this trail though and we did the entire route it shows(so dont know what happened). Great areas to go off trail and do some extra little climbs with some beautiful views with the rocks. Definitely a must do trail.

Good trail to walk your pups and get some energy out

this is a beautiful place and the scenery (especially at the top) was amazing, but it was a little challenging with our smaller children. we made it to the top though!

It's an easy and beautiful trail!

Nice trail for novice hikers. I would be alert of falling or loose rocks, steep last quarter of the hike , just below the caves. Beautiful views once you make it up!

Very easy trail. Gradual incline throughout trail but nothing crazy. So neat to see the mines. Definitely a repeat trip.

This was a great trail. We did not necessarily find it hard. We did get a little off track which we got in about an extra mile. We ended up on Schaffer trail and looped it into our walk ending up at the start of the upper sunset so we just walked back down to the lower sunset trail and finished the trail back out. The hardest part is loose rocks and hiking back up and out. So total we got about 9.16 miles out of it.

Great hike. Not too hard, just longer than I’m used to. Look for the giant metal grate. That’s one of them, with the other one south of it. You could get by with your phone light, but I would recommend bringing a decent flashlight.

Easy hike and easy to get off trail. Ended up being close to 8 miles, due to wandering off the course.

Nice trail steady incline, easy to get off track. We took a different route back and missed the entrance initially. The giant grate looking thing is the entrance and if you walk down the wooden steps you will see the other entrance. Bring a good flashlight or you won't make it far.
