Best trails in Caprock Canyons State Park & Trailway, Texas

A great trail climbing up to Haynes Ridge and an amazing scenic overlook. Although rated as moderate, the middle portion of this trek can be a bit strenuous from the canyon onto the ridge. The North Prong is less strenuous than the South Prong.Show more

This is a good short hike if you stick to the upper section of the trail (the first 1.5 miles). If you go down into the lower canyon, the climb is pretty tough to come back the Canyon Rim trail, but not much easier if you return via the Equestrian campground and the road back to the trail start. The best views are in those first 2 miles, after which you are in the bottoms. Near the entrance of the trail between it and the campground bathhouse is a community of prairie dogs that should not be missed.Show more

Eagle Point Trail takes you through the valley to a small natural bridge with views of creek and perhaps free ranging buffalo. Walk under the Eagle Point Trail where nature has created a natural bridge. Stop at the wooden bench and use the small trail to walk underneath and through the Natural Bridge.Show more

This loop uses the Upper South Prong Trail, which meets the Upper North Prong Trail. It returns to the starting point along the North Prong Spur.Show more

A 12 mile loop starting from the Wild Horse Camping Area. First 0.7 mi of Wild Horse Trail. At the first crossing continue north to Lower Canyon Trail, continue on Upper Canyon Trail passing Fern Cave (good stop about halfway for rest), continue on street going east until you can see the south part of the Lower Canyon Trail north of the street. Get on the Lower Canyon Trail until you cross with the Wild Horse Trail again and walk back to the starting point. The ascent after the fern cave is steep and the descent later on is a little tricky to navigate and very steep.Show more
