We drove this portion of the park after a morning hike and stop at the fossil museum. The end wasn’t anything special, but the overlook just after the tunnel was worth the stop.

Pretty drive around the park. Saw lots of good scenery and the flowers were blooming which was nice.

Stunningly beautiful. Amazing this exists in Texas. Very steep and windy road. Narrow and tight in spots.

One of the most beautiful drives you will take (though all the park is beautiful). Lots of opportunities to hit offshoot hiking trails or stop for overlooks and information boards. Castolon is currently in a state of disrepair due to being burned in a wildfire.

Beautiful drive at dusk!

So pretty! look for the Batman Mountain!

Very nice drive from Panther Junction. Very interesting location. Next time we will cross over into Mexico.

Very nice scenery, fairly easy drive.

This drive is worth it when the Yucca's are in bloom. At the end of the trail the landscape is full of them with their giant white flowers.

This rating isn't for the drive itself, though it's every bit as scenic as you'd imagine it is, but for the numerous off-trail hike opportunities lining the road. One such spot is my absolute favorite in the whole park, Cerro Castellan, which is just north of Castolon. If you're willing to make the somewhat sketchy hike (on incredibly loose footing) up to the base of the actual rock formation, the area and the view will take your breath away...

The drive from Panther Junction to the Rio Grande Village area features some pretty great views of the more desert-esque landscapes of the park, but like all drives, it's nowhere near the actual trail experience...

Great paved main road through many of the western Big Bend areas. Multiple opportunities to get out and hike great short and longer trails depending on your level of comfort. All signs are well marked and descriptions are good. Unfortunately the road was closed at the Cottonwood area due to government shutdown but we still spent close to six hours exploring.

Beautiful

Took the auto trail to dagger flat. You drive about 15-20 miles and turn around to go back the same way. No traffic this trip so never had to move over for passing vehicles. I would not pull a trailer back there. I was in a 4wd GMC crew cab but never left 2 wheel drive. It was bone dry. As I neared the mountain at the back the temp dropped and dark clouds appeared overhead. Conditions can change in a flash. Spotty 3g cell service on this trail. It was enjoyable.

A nice, quiet drive, but the low speed limit throughout the park makes this a half to full day venture.

Short and nice in morning

Although it’s not a hike, the drive is spectacular!

The road is graded gravel & we saw 3 cars coming out of it, so we took a chance. Besides some birds, we saw no other wildlife. Just the cacti. It was interesting to be among the cacti & be a part of the desert (if you can do that in a car). After about 5 miles the road got really bad - huge washouts & potholes. A car pulling an RPOD passed us going out. We think they were actually camping back there! The campgrounds were full the night before.

This is a great scenic road from Panther Junction. It's got lots of great hikes. A seasonal Visitor Center, a campground & store. The only crossing into Mexico in the park is here. Saw roadrunners, coyote, rabbits & javelina!!

The road was smooth, the scenery great, and I got way too excited driving through the tunnel.

Beautiful drive to make when you first enter the park.

Scenic drive into the heart of the Chisos leading to multiple trailheads, camping. Camping can be limited in big Bend during the peak season. Plan well ahead.

The paved route takes you through the core of Big Bend NP to numerous trailheads and scenic overlooks. It is a must do to get a good taste of the area.

Drive was awesome and smooth. Rio Grande Area is a large Oasis area different than rest of the park as the river has a lot of low ground to keep moist and provide water for plant life.
