Park at mesa top trailhead on Black Horse Road. Please don't block fire road. This is a pleasant hike with outstanding canyon escrapment views. After you hike out to overlook take upper canyon trail down. This trail also has very step staircases and may not be suitable for young children and elderly folks. You walk through Kildeer arch and by many large arches in the making. After about 1 mile on this trail the alternate jeep trail ascends mountain intersecting with mesa. Winter for views and spring for blooms offer best times.

Good short hike with good view of that portion of canyon. worth the hike.

Easy trail to hike, lots of neat vegetation to check out along the trail. Pretty view of canyon at the overlook

Easy trail to hike, beautiful.

Beautiful scenery.

I suggest doing this hike. we done it today beautiful. besides doing the short hike we done the entire loop. just amazing

Easy trail with rock house and nice overlook. Been here two times on a Saturday morning and had it to myself.

Easy hike to overlook

This was a great trail that we really enjoyed. The mesas were gorgeous, there was something to catch your eye around almost every corner. The trail was well marked with the exception of one spot at the loop that seemed to coincide with Jeep trails. If it wasn’t for this app it would have been very easy to make a wrong turn there. There is a ladder in a spot and a few narrow passageways so I’m not sure how great it would be for dogs, while the steep incline and length of the trail made me think it would be hard to bring kids along. Overall a great workout with nice views.

Nice workout with amazing geological features throughout the trail. Make sure to take the left pair of stairs about half way through the trail. It's a small in and out trail that leads to a beautiful overlook of the canyon!

Hiked the Overlook and the Canyon Trail, then connected over to the Pickett State Park trials.

Pogue Creek is a great workout with beautiful scenery! The many rock houses, steep cliffs, rock formations, boulders and hemlocks make the environment quite unique. It even has a white sand beach under one of the sandstone cliffs, and the water drips and pools by the cliffs are amazing. The only negative might be that it is not good for dogs due to the occasional steep stairs and ladders. But it is a beautiful hike!

Great elevation gain and beautiful views and rock formation. Only hiked half since we had a toddler and hubby had to go in to work. Definitely will come back to complete, probably without children. I like to keep a certain pace on the trails that have great elevation gain. This trail continues to another that is about 6 miles, definitely want to see what was missed!

Enjoyed this as a nice end of day hike. We powered through but the overlook is worth the whole thing. Not a hard hike and well worth the scenery.

This is a wonderful trail. It has a great mix of overlooks, incredible rock formations, and forest settings. The trail is well maintained and easy to navigate. There is enough elevation change to warrant the moderate rating and provide a good workout. This is definitely one of my favorite trails in this area.

Found this trail while geoaching in the area on 6/10/2018. The trail is fairly short but scenic. The trailhead kiosk had some interesting info on the "Pickett's Dark Sky Project".

A really amazing hike. Could not recommend it any more highly! So many beautiful cliffs and rock formations. The view at the end is great. Definitely an easy hike if you’re just looking for a brisk one.

Easy hike with awesome views. Lots of places to explore on the trail. The rock shelter with all the boulders was a favorite of our group.

Double back a little from the overlook and go down the steps into the canyon. Be sure to see the Killdeer Arch/ Mesas, you’ll still end up at Black house Mt Rd. Nice hike. About 3.5 mi. one way

Gorgeous view for minimal effort. Would wait a couple weeks for leaves to change for optimal hike.

If you go you must take the trail that goes down under the overlook to see all this area has to offer, so much more to see than just the view from the overlook, much longer hike but well worth it.

This is another hidden gem. Well-graded, well-maintained, lightly-used, lovely woods. The overlook reminds me of Savage Gulf only smaller. There is a lovely bench on a rock shelf that invites you to sit and enjoy the woods awhile; I was trying to do it pretty quick, but I couldn't help but linger there a bit. It's also next to the Pickett-Pogue Astronomy Field.
