It is very beautiful and we'll maintained, good for a short walk

Blue Blazes is a primitive trail and 100% maintained by volunteers (and I am one). Yes, this year due to the weather there were areas that were overgrown. However, we are please to announce that it is now 100% passable and beautiful!

Things to understand about this trail:
1. It is a primitive, natural trail. This means after a rain, there could be some muddy spots. However, the building of foot bridges is underway by a youth group and is on-going. Much improved!
2. You'll be passing alongside bogs and marshes (hence mosquitoes; just use bug repellent).
3. The trail is a 1.5 mile loop that passes the river mid-way. One side of the trail is more open and the other more natural with some smaller trails.
4. This trail is easily walked and is good for dogs and children (yes, can be slippery in some spots after a rain).

I love this trail! A short drive from downtown to escape the noise and catch a breath. It covers quite a bit of different terrain and history, even following alongside the Tennessee River for a spell (a few really good lookout points with a river view, too). The trail is manicured enough to maintain easy passability, especially with the recent additions of wooden footbridges to cover the "mud pits", but wild enough so you remember you are in the wilderness, after all. Sometimes as you amble down the trail, you may remember you're walking through 12,000 years of continuous human history. Perhaps it was flash of sunlight reflecting off a Union soldier's gun barrel you thought you just saw? Or Perhaps you barely heard the soft footfall of a foot encased in a moccasin? Maybe the sound of horses hooves as a Spanish Conquistador searches for nearby Hampton Place. Surely that was the yellow glare of a coyote stare watching you from the far reaches of the underbrush. Perhaps...

It was a great trail for my 3 year old. Pretty easy, but great hike for people getting into hiking

July 30th it was very dry and the river was to hard to get to. My dogs are used to swimming to cool and they were disappointed. Good for a travel stop.

Not a bad little trail, like the other guy said it can be boggy at times. There are also little paths that lead to a little "beach" area on the river.

Nice little nature walk. Enjoyed it but a bit boggy in places. I wouldn't go if it's been raining in the previous few days though.
