I went on a sunset hike on the Wild Turkey trail not knowing what to expect. I had high hopes because this trail is apart of Henry Horton State Park, and all my experiences there so far have been good ones. Another commentor said that this hike is really flat, but my fitness tracker said I climbed the equivalent of 16 flights of stairs, so I got my heart rate up a bit. While I didn't see any wild turkeys, I did spot deer nearby as well as some very interesting mushrooms unlike any I've ever encountered before. I finished this trail in 42 minutes just before I lost the day's light, but I would like to go again at a more leisurely pace. While there was a bit of noise closer to the trailhead due to the proximity to the roads, I think some of the loud sounds can be attributed to the nearby trap and skeet range. Still, I found it easy to get lost in nature here, and that is what counts.

This short but sweet hike is a great introduction to Henry Horton State Park, incorporating history with the lovely scenery. I was not prepared for the great views along the limestone bluffs of the Duck River. As you turn away from the river, you shortly come upon the Haunted Spring, known for a woman who lost her baby while washing laundry here in the 1800s, and it is unusually quiet here. As you go deeper along the trail, there are many short paths leading down to the ravines and rock formations, certainly worth exploring. Time seems to stand still while you are on this trail, and before you know it, you are back in the parking area. Luckily, there appears to be some work to extend the trails to make the best use for enjoying these woods.

Great easy and peaceful loop. Enjoyed it.

We had the trail to ourselves for the full two hours it took to hike it. The trail is well kept, but be sure to prep for bugs/ticks.

Nice easy hike. My friend picked up a lot of ticks so make sure you check for them.

Quiet loop.

I enjoyed all the shade trees and taking pictures of undisturbed foliage. I agree, it is advisable to pay attention to footing.

Very nice place.

This is one of my all time favorite hikes! We love the cedar glade opening and all the sinkholes!

great little trail!

This was a very easy trail, but there were a lot of tree roots to be aware of. I was able to easily carry my 3 month old in a sling. We did not start at the official trailhead, we picked up the trail in the campground, but it was still very well marked the whole way and from where we started, it took us about an hour and a half. We will defiantly be doing this trail again.

Good hike! We started half way on the trail a little down the road from the camping sites. It was a nice trail for our kids!

did the outer loop and had a great hike. did pick up several seed ticks and hit every spider web lol but other than that it was a great hike. wish I saw some of the local wildlife besides the spiders but oh well maybe another time.

This is a flat trail along the Duck River comprised of an old road bed, double-track trail and a few sections of narrow over-grown walking trail. I'm rating this trail two stars for a couple of reasons. First off, there really isn't a lot to see because the weeds are over 6' tall on the uphill side of the trail. In addition, only about a mile of the trail is actually a loop - the remaining 3 miles are out and back. Lastly, several sections were really over-grown and an invitation for ticks. There are a lot better trails around.

Well, I planned to hike the Hickory Ridge Outer Trail but, along the way I discovered the River Trail. Not knowing where it lead, I took it.

This was a great little trail to hike in the rain today. It's marked at 1.5 miles, but my smart watch tracked me at having walked nearly 3.5 miles, so I'm not sure how that happened. The only downsides are the road noise and the ticks! On the plus side, I was the only one out there so it was an easy, flat hike. I'm an avid hiker, and I'd gauge this trail as easy because it's so flat. It's July, so there were a few wildflowers scattered around. And I saw an awesome turtle on the way out!

Great trail. My four and 11 year old did good on this trail. I felt like it was longer than 2.7 miles. We hiked both loops and it took us exactly 2 hours.

Peaceful and pretty, but we ended up removing 7 ticks between the 3 of us, and we stuck to the trail the entire time. Be careful and check yourself and your dogs routinely!

Decent little trail. Super muddy when I went. I saw no one on the trail. More like 2.5 miles.

Very flat trail.

Walked/hiked it this past Sunday morning. At 9am the trails were empty, had the woods to myself. Pay attention to hazards if you are wearing walking shoes you may get a poke through your sole. The Duck was flowing well, golfers could be heard yelling expletives on the course opposite Wilhoite/River trails. The Wetlands trail was mostly dry and newly cut but of little interest other than peeper frogs. It was disturbing seeing private property owner's deer stands just on the other side of the park property fence. Made me a little leery. All in all, a good time of day, lots of privacy, could imagine this being overrun by dogs, kids and trail bikes even though they are prohibited (bikes, I mean.) Dense forest--wasn't at all disturbed by traffic noise other than the occasional train.
