Paved trail, pretty steep hike up but breathtaking views

Would rate as moderate due to various terrain. Wasn’t terribly crowded mid-day in May. Definitely recommend!

Pleasant. Unfortunately the trillium gap trail this leads to is closed for repairs

The falls are nothing special, but heard of you continue past the rainbow falls to the peak the views are gorgeous

Views so worth it! Really enjoyed the hike

Steep incline, satisfying hike. Views are good if you go past the gate and continue onto the chimney itself

Nice easy trail. Very good waterfall at the end. Good for kids.

Amazing hike! Took about 4 hrs round trip. After the initial incline(first 40ish minutes) it levels out a bit, 100% worth the view. Was glad I started early passed a lot of folks on my way down.

Here is the thing about this trail. It’s hard because from beginning to end at the top it is straight up hill. It’s deceiving. So start off slow because it’s going to take a lot of steam. It’s a great hike altogether and the chimney top view is amazing. There is a sign that says closed. You can go around it and continue. We went up all the way until we got to point were we didn’t feel comfortable. Then we trecked back down. All in all it was a beautiful hike. Love the river that runs along. You feel like you are in a rainforest in South America. But again. This is not an easy hike. It will chip away at you slowly so bring lots of water.

I'm a man in his late 20s, physically in shape, not super athletic. Enjoy tough hikes. We hiked up Rainbow, had a beer at leConte lodge, kept on over the BLVD trail, got a spot in Icehouse Shelter, checked out Charles Bunion at sunset, next day we returned back early, got a morning coffee at the lodge, and then headed down Trilliam. This hike was TOUGH, but AMAZING. Several bears mid june. Gain up to LeConte was pretty darn tough! To get the most out of a weekend in the Smokes and for a really tough workout, I recommend this route. All parts were great

A quintessential Smokes hike. Good gain, great views. There is a gate at the end which is locked. We went around it. I think you could get in trouble for this, but who knows. #Rebels

Really nice short-ish hike. We saw a bear at the end, in the rain and fog. it was a little scary. Would do again.

Excellent trail! I would say the trail is moderate until you reach the half-way point at which time it goes straight uphill. It is definitely a thigh burner, but I’d do it again.

This trail is more moderate/hard. I could imagine lots of slippery spots if it had recently rained. The waterfalls were worth the walk. As suggested by others, we took the extra little climb to the left of the Falls up to the pool at the bottom. The breeze, and mist from the Falls was breathtaking. I would definitely suggest some type of water shoe to explore around in the water at the top to get the full experience. We will definitely do this one again!

We hiked this trail yesterday. We are not experienced hikers, but this trail (based on the amount we hiked) wasn’t difficult for beginners. It was nice to see the creek and the rock wall built by the men of the CCC in the 1930’s. We found the old cemetery and parts of a tractor which were probably the coolest parts of the trail. There was an insane amount of spider webs on the trail. There was a lot of trees down on the trail as well, but they were manageable to walk across. There were no clear trail markers available. It was hard to follow the trail since it branched off a lot. We did not finish the trail after hiking for over 2 hours. It would be cool to finish the trail to find the engine, but we decided it wasn’t worth trying to finish for us. There were no mountain views or waterfalls that we saw, but the sound of the stream was nice to hear as we hiked.

This is one of the best trails around. We do this one at least once a year. Don't stop at the falls...keep going and you'll arrive at the Midnight Hole...great place to take a little dip. Further up is the back country campsite....nice quiet refreshing walk in the woods. Love this hike!!

Rookie review: trail was a little deceiving for some newbs. Started out relatively flat and wide but lots of steepness towards the cave. We made it to the cave though! Then turned back for a nice downhill walk back to the trailhead.
