I've been here a few times now. Great choice of trails and it looks like the land trust recently updated - trails well marked and even signs that point to parking. My dog loved it!

Love bringing my fur babies here!

I hiked from Grills Preserve in Westerly, RI to Grills Wildlife Sanctuary in Hopkinton, RI. I crossed the Pawcatuck River via the Polly Coon Bridge on the Tomaquag Trail. The cairn on Grills Preserve trail marks the turning point for hikers to access the new Polly Coon Bridge which spans the Pawcatuck River, linking the trails to those on Hopkinton Land Trust’s Grills Wildlife Sanctuary. The cairn was built to a height of 8 feet to match the high water mark from the flood of March 2010. Grills Preserve absorbed a tremendous amount of floodwaters that were kept from rushing downstream into downtown Westerly. All-in-all, I loved this hike because anything involving water views is totally worth my time.

Check the past week's weather before you try the trail! I've gone down the main trail many times, and the small off shoots as well, and they're usually great. The trails are nice and wide and pretty clear of roots and brush. They are pretty well marked, but even if you lose sight of the markers the trails are so well maintained that you only need to follow the clear path ahead of you. There are a few ponds, a river, and some marsh lands that you pass on the trails, which are usually great, but if it has rained recently large portions of the trail pool with a lot of water. Most puddles can be navigated around on the main trail, but on the side trails (the blue trail in particular) it can become impassable (picture attached).
