There was more water on this trail than the lake

Once away from the hustle and bustle of the main trails along the roads in Presque Isle, this could be a short, straight, level walk with a lot packed in to see. Frogs, turtles, the work of beavers and too many species of birds to count. In dryer days this would be great for families with young children. Today though ... from the east side, only less than a mile could be used before the trail was underwater and it looked like a permanent condition to me. Would have been a two but for the wildlife.

Currently the main trail is closed and likely will be for this year due to high water. There is a detour that takes you about halfway along the beach and then meets back up with the main trail closer to the point. It was pretty easy to follow the detour and we enjoyed it especially when we made it out to the point.

I've seen this trail by kayak and it looked neat so we decided to try it. We've tried 3 times in the last 3 months and it's constantly muddy or actually under water to the point where we give up.

We couldn't enter from the west side of the trail due to it being very wet. We entered from the east side and made it about a mile before we ran into widespread puddles and mud and decided to turn around. It was a mix of sand and dirt. Great for seeing some birds. The juxtaposition of biomes between the sandy areas and wooded areas was pretty neat. I'd probably do it again when the water level is a bit lower.

Part of this is a designated bike/walking lane on the main (paved) road that loops around the Presque Isle State Park, and part is a seperate sidewalk-type path. It's wide, flat and easy, and usually well maintained. Fall and spring, and early mornings, are the best times for this trail if you want less obstacles. It's two-way traffic but pleanty wide for passing. Working water fountains and bathrooms along the way between memorial day and labor day. Several rest facilities are open all year.

Completely overgrown. Had to turn around. Didn’t mind the muddiness, but there was little to no trail direction to follow.

During the summer and fall months I would recommend to anyone

7/8/19 Certainly an adventure but waders are a MUST! I’m happy I slogged through in some rubber boots, but likely wouldn’t do it again without more waterproofing. The observation tower/Gull Point however, was just as beautiful as I was hoping. Hitching up my hammock under the tower was a wonderful experience.

Great trail. Well maintained. Plenty of bathrooms and beaches. Great views.

Beautiful walk on an old tiny cement pathway that takes you from one side of the park to the other. Lots of wood and wentland views. We saw a variety of birds and a weasel on the trail. Had to turn back about a mile in due to flooding in Mid-May. The trail connects to several other trails in the area, so this one is a great starting point.

The trail was washed out 0.7 miles into the hike. I marked it on my recording. No easy way around it. I tried it in the winter thinking it would be frozen enough, but no joy. I’m guessing it would be better in the summer and fall and that the spring would be wet too.

I did this trail during mid February; the goal was to reach the Gull Point Observation Tower. I ended up detouring to photograph the large ice boulders that resulted from Lake Erie being frozen over. Therefore I walked the “ice beach” most of the way. On the return I had to backtrack and go the way I came in as the trail was ice covered and washed out in many places. After falling through the ice into 1’+ of water I decided it wasn’t worth it. Just keep in mind you can reach the “objective” kinda using the trail but you’ll have to utilize the beach.

Went for a beautiful hike here last fall

Trailhead start was detoured however barely 1 mile in the trail was under water !

this is a nice relaxing trail rather you ride the road or trail, I like to trail ride in and road ride out.

Easy trail with a paved very narrow path about 2 feet wide. It is currently very overgrown and buggy, definitely wear a insect repellent. There are a few areas on the trail that are like sink holes next to the paved trail, if I hadn't looked down I'd have stepped right in, not sure how deep these go. The trail leads to a historic lighthouse and beaches. Trail is dog friendly for leashed pets.

great trail, beautiful area, busy trail with a variety of pedestrians (bikes, roller bladers, runners, strollers, dogs, etc).
