We loved this hike! beautiful woods, rock formations and stream. having 2 little ones backpacked on us made it a little challenging but the loop to Cascades & flat Rock then back to parking lot was about 1.5 miles so definitely doable with the kids. We spent the whole day at the Cascades. there were great shallow pools for our 2 year old to splash in for hours!

I just did this trail yesterday and it was definitely a challenge! Felt like a bada** mountain hiker. And the overlook at around 2.2 miles in was sooo worth it! Stopped there on the way back for a few mins to rest & recharge before finishing the last leg. Met some cool people along the way and made for a fun day trip at Ohiopyle.

It was an easy trail, some spots were rocky but lots of beautiful views.

If you hate snakes, be prepared. Not small snakes either. This hike is beautiful and super fun to explore and walk close to the water but there are a lot of water snakes on the rocks and trails. The vegetation reminds you of being somewhere tropical. Easy, relaxing hike. Great hike for all that enjoy hiking and exploring. You should wear hiking shoes, I saw multiple people wear sandals and there are many places to trip and fall. The trail isn’t flat by any means, and you need to watch where you step.

beautiful hike..takes you along the river and you walk out on the rocks...takes you to Cucumber Falls....did get lost at times...took you by the Allegheny passage.

Beautiful...lots of fern, very little rock, nice hill climb to get the heart pumping

I took my 2 and 4 year old on this trail and it was the perfect training wheels trail. A couple muddy bits and a few hills but very well maintained. Also moderately trafficed.

The trail head is easy to get to. It's just directly over the Bridge from 'downtown' Ohiopyle . Fun trail climbing over rocks near the water. I started the trip clockwise (by mistake) and when the trail started heading into the forest, I wanted to stay by the water because it was just so nice that I just followed the trail back the way I came counterclockwise- took about an hour to do it that way and I just skipped being in the woods cuz they had some mosquitos. The highlight is really being by the water.

Nice

Great trail for a day hike. I would travel counterclockwise and there are a few areas where you can venture away from the trail towards the river for some great scenery of the rapids. If you are in the area go ahead and put this on your list!

My 5 year old and I did the red loop on 7/82018. I was going to do a completely different trail but at the last minute figured we could get on it early and just take our time. About 1/2 way thru the trail just kind of disappeared. Being that I had my mini me in tow, I really wasn't paying attention to the numbered posts more that I was just following the arrows. Totally my mistake. I ended up using one of the maps that I grabbed at the the trail head and a compass and ended up back up, after maneuvering thru some tricking terrain, in the middle of "a" trail. Unfortunately, it was the black trail. This time I paid attention to the numbers and realized i where I was in the loop and and headed back to link back up to the red trail. Once I was back on the trail it was smooth sailing from there. We were out there for about 6-7 hours (stopping at the rivers, big rocks and anything else a 5 year old wants to stop for) and only saw a grand total of 5 people and a dog. 1 was a runner, 2 + the dog lived near by, and a man and his son were doing some fishing. All in all, this is not for kids (the description doesn't say kid-friendly) and is off the beaten path. The markings could have been better (in lieu of some official signs, there were pink ribbons tied to the trees...when they stopped is when we ended in no mans land) but for a more experienced hiker this was pretty good. Just a few streams but no major waterfalls/rivers. If nothing else from this reviews, like others said, grab a map or else it will be some tough sledding.

Nice little hike.

I did this hike out to Mile 0 after starting at 70 the week prior. The hills are rough, but some beautiful views. The coming down to the shelter from mile 7 is brutal!
An awesome hike! These last 6.5 miles, in my opinion, aren’t as a beautiful walk as the rest of the trail but still beautiful. Be sure to wear good shoes and carry water!

Great hike with beautiful scenery and a wonderful outlook towards the middle. I definitely would consider this trail moderate difficult rather than easy, though. Quite a bit up upward climbing! Lovely trail.

I loved this trail one of my favorites so far just enough of a challenge for me only issue is part of trail the bridge is out and was never replaced so had to walk thru the water

Fun trail next to the water!! Great views! Super busy and saw multiple snakes which def not a fan of.

A little tough to follow the first half mile, although a beautiful run. The rest is easy until the climb. A good run.

5/30/18 - Awesome trails, very well marked. I really wanted to hit one of the longer trails but, with storms in the forecast for the afternoon I decided to keep it short. The first thing I witnessed was the pollen blowing off the trees in the parking lot. Fortunately I took allergy medicine. Unfortunately my dog suffered, coughing for the first mile or so. Quite the variety of terrain and foliage. Heard an owl and scared some deer away, probably from my dog's bear bell. I would consider this trail lightly moderate.

Great trail for the family.

On May 28, 2018, I did the black loop which my GPS calculated at about 12.5 miles. The trail was overgrown in parts, was very rocky in parts, was wet and muddy in parts, and had downed trees in parts that blocked the trail. Given this, I was not able to hike at the pace I hoped to keep. Also note that the last portion of the black trail was on a service road. However, the majority of the trail was in good shape, fairly well marked, and overall was an enjoyable experience.

Took it counterclockwise and the views were amazing. Well marked, great easy hike

This hike is short, moderate difficultly, and full of diverse scenery. I completed the whole thing in 2 hours with also exploring most of the curiosities along the trail. This trail consists of abandoned cabin foundations, a small pond, an over look of the valley, various types of trees and foliage, cool large boulders and moderately steep hiking! I would recommend for a quick fun hike!

Fantastic trail. Took the advice of some other reviews to hike counterclockwise for the views- incredible!

A nice hike yesterday in beautiful weather.

A nice group of red and white trilliums on the west side of 381 section.

Make sure you download the trail maps from the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy or pick one up at the start. This trail route is actually a combination of a number of trails, and the marking can be quite confusing.

Not very well marked at all. Got lost a couple times and eventually turned around.

Perfect warm up trail. Bit muddy when I hiked but the group I was with started at ferncliff, and it was a great trail to stretch the legs on and enjoy the forest scenery.

Excellent trail with beautiful scenery. Came from high bridge and hit cucumber falls at the end and it was well worth it. had the gorge trail to ourselves, but the falls themselves were a little crowded since it's a popular spot right next to the road.

Great trail. Followed blue to black. Few down trees great views. Fun hike.

Great rolling trail following the river. the last bit has a decent elevation change. Make sure to stop at Cucumber Falls.

Great challenge. As a beginner it was very tough. But we made it to the 6.4 mile spent the night then back out for some burgers and icecream at a great little place by the viewing spot. Took everything we had to get back. Not a good beginner trail but great views none the less!
