Poorly marked intersections left us guessing which way to go. Poor cell reception left us without trail map. Emerged from woods in someone’s back yard and rode roads back to start point. Trail was a fun ride until no trespassing signs.

Great Park for hiking

I'm conflicted reviewing this trail.

I think it's a perfect length for a decent weekend venture that doesn't eat up the whole day (like a trip to the Pinnacle or Hawk Mountain), but it is by far the most "buggy" trail I hike -- and I hike a lot of trails in this area.

At French Creek, there is little difference between wearing repellent and not wearing it. By wearing some bug spray, you might not get bitten, but getting bitten really isn't the problem here, it's bugs continually landing on your face, hovering by your ears and dive-bombing you. The last three times I've been here I've spent at least 90% of my time needing one hand free to act like a windshield wiper for my face.

Folks, I'm from Florida and so I grew up with buggy trails, but French Creek feels like it was transplanted from the swamp lands (even though only some of it's terrain is mucky) and set in the hills of Southeastern PA.

I recommend this trail in the Fall and Winter, but by Spring and Summer I always finish the trail pissed off by the nuisance.

This is a decent moderate trail for hiking. But beware, while there is a firetower at the top, there's a locked gate around, so you can't climb up it. And there are ZERO views along the way.

A good add-on to my Boone Trail loop. Started from Hopewell Lake, took Boone Trail clockwise to Fire Tower Road, north of Scott's Lake, then Six Penny counter-clockwise, and then a bit of a shortcut by taking Lenape trail back to Hopewell Lake via Park Rd. A little over 7.5 miles altogether. No vistas, a few mushroom species, and a weird collection of abandoned metal objects - wire baskets, a fuel tank, shelves.

Definitely longer than 6.5 miles. Tons of forest views that are pretty but not much else. Wear tons of insect repellent - the little gnats are annoying!

Very very rocky. Get for hiking but you would need to be an expert in order to mountain bike this trail Goes between blue and yellow trails. You need to download map or you will get lost. We followed the map exactly and there was no fire tower to be had.

I hiked this trail on a Fall Saturday late morning. It was very peaceful and quiet, only saw one other person on the section that merges with the Horse Shoe trail. Would definitely recommend wearing sturdy shoes, especially after leaves have fallen. Parts of the trail are very rocky and it was hard to see with all the leaf covering. This trail can be easily accessed from the campground by the connector trail - I just walked down the back of my campsite and I came right to it!

kinda a boring trail. bugs attacked my fave the whole entire time. some of the trail is a little rocky and with the leaves covering them, you could definitely hurt your ankles.

Nice hike, we had great weather. It's sad that the fire tower was not open. I'm sure there would have been some nice views.

I did a partial hike of this trail on an unseasonably warm mid-December Saturday afternoon and only encountered a handful of people. I started at Scotts Run Lake and did about four miles. Nice trail, mostly flat with a couple small hills - nothing notable but time spent in the woods is time well-spent in my opinion, so I was happy to be there!

Moderate trail. Fairly well marked. The trail has been re routed in a few spots. But overall a good hiking trail.

Leaves were slippery but the beat in paths and small burms were still fast and surprising dry. Rock gradens are tough for 26"

I did this last July. It was hot, but the lakes were beautiful. There were a lot of other hikers, so I guess it must be a local favorite.

This was the green blazed trail and appeared to be recently re-marked so it was easy to follow. You do have to trust yourself when crossing the roadways but there are enough marks to find your way. Overall the hike is not overly difficult but there are not many views other than around Hopewell Lake. I went mid-week and it is extremely peaceful. So if you want a moderate hike that takes 2-3 hours depending on how often you stop this is perfect.
