The 3.1 mile recording associated with this trail in AllTrails includes parts of the red and purple trails at ChesLen Preserve. In my opinion, these are not the best trails at the preserve. Both trails are cut through grass fields. These means they are a little boring and are very exposed to sun and heat. Nice views of the surrounding countryside (and lots of birds to see), but there are better trails at Cheslen if you work your way east on the green, yellow and grey connector trails. These go through woods along streams and are nicer to hike. I attached a recording that started out on the red and purple trails (I was following the AllTrails map). However, after about 3 miles of hiking in the sun, I got off of the AllTrails map and randomly worked my way east and south on other trails. It was well worth it. I ended up hiking another 5.5 miles, the majority of which was in the woods. I included a few photos on my recording to give an idea of the diversity of trails at Cheslen if you get off of the red and purple trails. As others have said, I would rate the trails as easy. For the most part, they are very well maintained without any sustained steep sections. All in all, this is a nice place to hike, but I would recommend adding some of the eastern trails to the AllTrails map to provide some diversity.
