Cloudy day. The hike is intense for only being 2.5 miles up the mountain. Poles helped. You'll need some footwear with grip.

I hiked this over Veteran’s Day. STEEP! Like, really steep. It’s a good workout in a really pretty setting. I’m sure the summit has great views if you are lucky enough to time it right. I had cool views of the tops of the clouds. My dog loved this hike, especially running back down!

Beautiful and gentle with instant views of the beautiful creek where a salmon jetted by.

Definitely a leg burner. Plenty of people on the trail but it didn’t feel crowded. It was tricky coming down with a pup on a 7 foot leash. I ended up letting him run ahead a few times so I wouldn’t get pulled down.

Did this hike Sat. 10/31, arrived just before 9am. The parking lot was already full which was discouraging. There is plenty of overflow parking though, and I was easily able to park down a bit. What I didn’t know is that there are 3 trail options from this TH, so if there aren’t a ton of cars in the overflow spots, you’re probably not going to run into a lot of people. I saw/passed only 3 couples on my way up. This one is demanding like most reviews say. I definitely underestimated the toll it took on my body coming down. I highly recommend poles or a hiking stick. My legs were jello and there are plenty of slippery spots. I fell 3 times coming down, all on my butt and all super hard. I’ve got lots of scrapes and bruises as souvenirs. The views up top are incredible though so, it was worth it. I probably won’t do it again though. Ha!

As the other reviewers suggested, I hiked this clockwise. I would consider myself an average hiker. The first 1.5 miles were indeed very uphill, but with lots of quick stops to catch my breath, it wasn’t overwhelming. I also hiked on a cold, clear day in October. Hot or rainy weather would have made this hike much, much harder - would not recommend under those conditions. Views from the summit are decent, though it’s similar to the views you see several times on the way up. While I did have to butt slide down a few rocks coming off the summit, it was not difficult. (The trail off the summit is to your left when your back is to the summit sign. The trail goes down a rocky area, so it’s a bit hard to see). The last 4-5 miles are basically a gentle downhill descent back to the trailhead. My watch clocked the whole loop at 9.6 miles. I arrived at 8:30 on a Monday, no other cars. Only saw 3 other groups of hikers the whole loop.

Enjoyed this trail today. Still so grateful for written reviews. I was well prepared for a strenuous first stretch... and boy did it kick me!!! I did follow advice to go Clockwise and glad I did! Breathtaking views on the way up and at the summit. Getting up to the summitt was hard but a fun challenge! The immediate "drop down" right after the summitt was... not fun initially but I felt pretty great after scrambling and butt sliding my way through! It did take me 5 hours... the last 2 were a bit boring but, I was by myself! Would have enjoyed it more with company! I also love to trail run but was too tired after hour 3 to do so. Did have Super Human sightings.... a man with bells was running up and down hill! And then 3 young, tall runners came rushing by! Power to the Superhumans! Although honestly, anyone who conquers this trail is awesome! And while other reviews state that Clockwise is best... for knee peeps, going downhill for such a long time, is hard!! Anyway, a lovely day!

HikingGreat!

I hiked this trail back in March. It was a great hike. The trail was a bit slick in some areas. I took my dogs but I think next time I will not take them since the trail is steep in areas and the gravel is loose.

Bird WatchingGreat!

The little trail that could. The Kings trail reminded me right away that it’s ganna be a tough go of it. It’s steep, calms down, steep, calms down, and the most steep approaching the summit. I’m an average hiker, far from an expert and I was verrry tired powering through. Some one else I ran into lapped me and was going for round 2 though haha, so not hard for some. It was a great hike. I saw an owl! It had a gorgeous view at the top! Finished in 3 hours. Go in the morning to grab an easy parking spot.

Short, but beautiful trail. Some road noise, but that's to be expected as it's right off 26 and next to the Sunset Highway.

Nice and steep. Poles would be helpful. Descent was tough bc of the tiny, loose rocks. Worth it though!

hiked this today and was surprised at how dry the trail was after a few days of rain, although there was evidence of lots of muck running down the trail. It's a beautiful fern-filled hike but very steep and rocky. I am in bad shape so it took me about 3 hrs total with lots of stopping to catch my breath and give my knees a break. But I'll definitely do it again when I'm in better shape

Hiked 10/2/20 morning and it was exactly as reviewed previously. Clocked 4.7mi 2550ft on the out and back mapped above. The trail map shows a tie to Jones River Trail which I was planning to take on the return, however, it appeared to follow the view point path over a cliff face and I didn’t attempt to descend.
