Very nice trail. Varying environment from forest with mushrooms to dunes. Trail connects to a stretch of sandier trail that leads to the beach and can be extended to link up with the three-mile lake trail.

short easy trail. it doesn't appear to get used often. some trees have blown down over the trail. didnt appreciate the bag of dog poop someone "forgot" to take with them.

Beautiful hike: one part beach walk and two parts dunes hike. My wife and I enjoyed the first three miles or so, but the last mile section of dunes was very tiresome and diminished the overall hike experience.

Great trail for beginners. Not too steep or rough. Lots of roots so watch your step.

Ironically named with the lake but I guess you only get a view of the lake if you camp or go through a campsite. Great trail though that gives a taste of what the Oregon coast is all about.

Great little trail with the kids. Not busy at all for a Friday afternoon and close to the beach for a nice cool off on a warm August day.

tahkenich dunes trail and three mile lake north loop went to three mile lake, beach, tahkenich.

Expected big dunes, that was not the case. Would recommend shoes until you arrive at the beach.

Kinda crowded today but a great trip.

Only thing that knocks a star off is lack of clear marking when you first hit the dune section. Also, if you’re doing the loop, take the fork that says “campground”, NOT “parking lot”. The latter sends you back up to the Tahkenich trailhead, which is not the same as the dunes route. Overall, a really gorgeous, mostly shaded forest hike with some sand and beach. Will do again for sure!

Overall a very nice trail with great views and lake and beach access, not too strenuous. The mosquitoes were the only thing I didn't enjoy.

Magical. From the campsite car park thru rhododendron blooms, into encapsulating scrub, emerging to giant dunes and the sound of crashing waves. A long walk along a golden, wind-swept and completely empty beach before returning thru a simply stunning forest. 6 miles of heaven. My dog loved it too.

This trail takes the hiker from a campground/day use area to the beach. Along the way, one is immersed in a rainforest of lush vegetation, including lichen, moss, fern and blooming trees - in May. The trail is moderately difficult due to the elevation changes and it’s mainly single-trail nature. Yet, if the hiking is leisurely, it’s an easy trail due to its soft surface that is only intermittently disrupted by intruding roots. We were hiking with our 32-months-old daughter. About half-way, one passes by the dunes and has to traverse a narrow section on sand. It was raining when we hiked, and the wet sand good be tricky to navigate for inexperienced hikers. We did not have the time to explore the Three-mile Lake, but the view from the trail over the lake convinced us to come back soon and take a swimming break. Overall, it is one of the most beautiful hikes I have taken outside of alpine environments. The perfect hike for “forest bathing”.

Note - get your day pass at the campsite across the highway first! Clean, well marked, shaded, and enough elevation change to keep it interesting. A little disappointed to find that once you hike all the way out, there is no easy lake access (unless you cut through the campsites).

A variety of terrain, including a stretch of beach. Be prepared to walk on sand - I recommend long pants that you can pull over your boots to keep the sand out. The parking area has great lookout platforms, picnic tables along the first stretch of trail, nice restrooms, and a water fountain.

easy until the sand then a little bit of a workout but worth it.

$5 day use fee. Easy clear trail. We started with the southern loop. 2/3 way out to the coast we took our shoes off and walked in sand. 3/21/19 afternoon til sunset it was partial sun and comfortable with moderate layering, windy on the beach.

Easy pretty trail. I will say it was partially flooded in some areas

very pretty hike through the forest. not difficult.

Nice clear trail out past the dunes to the Pacific Ocean. Saw a banana slug! Pretty empty this time of year, also really pretty this time of year.

Beautiful and easy. A little walking through sand, groomed trails and a bridge over the lake. Great little hike.

I dont think this was my fav. My friend and I did the whole loop..I think about 3 miles or more. probably because of the cold but I wasn't as thrilled. Also I may not like sand as much as I thought. half of it was surrounded by sand. and I just got tired of it. anyways if you're a fan..you'll love it. there is some walking through trees which was beautiful.

Backpacked in at night with a group of Scouts. Trail well defined and easy to negotiate with headlamps. Fairly busy at the lake but the weather was ideal for October. No problems finding camping spots for 6 adults and 12 scouts even by headlamps. Beautiful location with access to water for filtering. Highly recommended.

Beautiful trail.
