Nice trail for an overnight trip. Very busy even on a weekday with over 20 cars at the trail head on both Tuesday and Wednesday.

BackpackingGreat!

Trail into Pamelia was very nice then after Pamelia it starts to get steeper for about 3.3 miles until you get to hunts cove. There were sections of the trail that were over grown a little but still very easy it navigate through the trail.

first time doing this trail, we saw both lakes and they were beautiful. Lots of camping available. We came across very little bugs. The lake was pretty windy today. Very family friendly. We wanna go back when its not so dusty. Trail is very dusty so I wore a bandana on my face.

Easy trail. Plenty of shade up to Duffy Lake, which is GORGEOUS, and surprisingly warm enough to swim comfortably. Skeeters weren’t a problem either. Midday on a Friday wasn’t overly crowded at all, and it looked like there were still plenty of spots to camp around the lake. Will be back to camp for sure! Saw several rad kiddo backpackers rocking this trail, and it’s a great doggo trail as well (no steep drop offs) There isn’t anywhere to pay the $5 fee at the parking area (slips are 86’ed cause covid). A ranger came by and left a form to mail in the $5 on the windshield , but NO TICKET! Yeehaw!

Absolutely loved this hike! Easy to find with the coordinates from AllTrails. No super steep hills or extreme elevation increases, making it a great family-friendly hike. Both Duffy and Santiam Lake were spectacular to view—very calm and quiet, with just a few people camping there. I went on a weekday morning/afternoon, and there were plenty of empty dispersed sites around both lakes. Stunning views and gorgeous wildflowers all around the trails. Bugs weren’t too bad, though I did coat myself with plenty of (non-DEET) bug spray before getting to the lakes. Only got a few bites, but I imagine they are worse in the evenings!

Nice beginner or kid-friendly backpacking trip. The trail is shaded for most of it. Campsites by the lake are large and spread out. We did this Saturday 7/25 and had no problem getting a nice campsite. Bring bug spray and be aware the trail is pretty dusty. Also, you need a NW Forest Pass to park at the trailhead. Remember to pack out all your trash and TP!

This a nice walk through the forest with two stops to break out of the trees. Those stops are Pamelia Lake and Grizzly Peak. The climb was 2700ft but not too steep over many miles. On a Thursday, the trail seemed almost empty.

Great hike. Incline very gradual. Longer than the 6.8 I think. We are novices and hike was longer than what we were used to, but well worth it. Beautiful. Our favorite so far. We had a hard time finding the turnoff, because the direction on forest service site said something about turning on Big Meadow road, but it's not that.

The trail itself is great. The hike along the stream is nice. Lots of little waterfalls. Nice to walk under a canopy of trees on a hot day. It's an easy trail that the whole family can enjoy. The lake is less than average. A haven of bugs and mosquitoes. If going for the lake, it's not worth it. Everything else was great.

7/14/20: The climb to Coyote and Shale Lakes was gentle and peaceful. It felt like the views really began at Coyote. Cathedral Rocks is worth the trip alone. Spectacular! I had trouble navigating the Hunt’s Cove Trail section of the loop with just the app (it was snow covered). I wasn’t prepared for more than a day hike or the possibility of getting lost, so I found the Hunt’s Creek Trail and took that back to Pamelia instead. It had some snow on it, but I could distinguish it as a trail. Hunt’s Creek is overgrown in spots as you approach Pamelia Lake. I met a ranger who asked for my permit in the first mile of my excursion. The crew was out clearing downfall all day. I saw very few people. An awesome feature of this hike is the close proximity to Jefferson. My loop was 18.6 miles, but this included some route finding and backtracking.

Trail is definitely longer than all trails says. Atleast 6 miles to mowich, making a 12 miles round trip. The hike to Duffy is great. Mild incline, very nice dirt trail. And a couple spots for dogs to get some flowing water. From Duffy to mowich, there’s a couple trees down and the incline is a little more intense. But still mostly packed dirt trail. The trail over all is mostly in forest which makes it pretty shaded. I ended up running the trail on the way back, very enjoyable. I also only passed one person the entire time. Beautiful lakes with some camping spots. And bugs weren’t too bad.

HikingBugsGreat!

My first hike in and camp and it was amazing. was there last weekend. The first mile was a bit hard for me as I am chubby and a smoker so the uphill climb was somewhat rough...for me. My husband and brother had no problems with it though. After I got in my groove I was good. The bugs were obnoxious but we brought lots of off and only ended up with a few bites. Use your off and citranella. The reward at the end was absolutely perfect, we arrived at this beautiful, majestic, astonishing lake surrounded by moutains, no one else there when we got there, took my breath away. The camp was wonderful. Got busy later on but the camp sites were perfectly spaced and we met some great people. Best camp ever.

Got a late start so ended at Duffy for night one. Pretty crowded. Lots of bugs and not a lot of camp sites left on a Friday afternoon. Beautiful hike and lake with amazing views of Duffy Butte. Even fewer camp sites to choose from for sites at Mowich on night two.
