Long gradual descent on gravel road before trail takes off into trees. It’s worth the trek, however, to see the biggest living trees I have ever seen! Wildflowers such as trillium, bleeding heart and yellow violets are in bloom now. Pretty much had the trail to ourselves at 5:30 pm Tuesday. Uphill on the way back.

nice easy hike with beautiful forest views. dog friendly too!

Nice easy trail. beautiful scenery. my 7 year old loved this section of trai.

Challenging at times, listened to owl talk to me and enjoyed the snowy view. I took a wrong turn and feel signage could be better. I will go again later Spring as too much snow closer to top. Lots of creek access for my lab so she was happy. 4 star because lack of signs.

Great views and a fun, challenging hike. Took me about 2:40 minutes to finish, I would have been quicker if it wasn’t for the 6” of snow on most of it! Crazy end of March weather.

I really enjoyed this hike but it’s not the most scenic.

great trail, well maintained. I'm glad I didn't bring my 2 young children as it would have been too hard for them. Definently not stroller/toddler friendly.

I went back in early December of a sunny day. Bit unclear at times when I came to a couple forks in the road. I looped around the southwest side and the view of Mary's Peak getting swallowed by a storm cloud was awesome! Overall, challenging and enjoyable day.

Beautiful vistas on an easy loop trail. This old fat man had no problem doing it.

Steep and pretty.

Easy hike. It’s pretty short but you can do multiple loops if you want something longer.

my 7 year old daughter and I enjoyed this hike.

nice afternoon hike when added to calloway intensive loop also

nice afternoon hike.

nice afternoon stroll

We should have read the reviews first since we missed the actual old growth trail and ended up doing a much longer hike. The trail, road width, is covered in rock and was still very pretty and peaceful! It gradually goes up hill but was an easy hike.

A great day hike to get out for a few hours, my boyfriend and I took the trail going up and took a smaller trail back. It was pretty and a great hike! Wasn't busy so it was nice to feel like the only ones on the trail

Well marked. Not many people. Lush beautiful forest.

Loved it!!!

Both old growth trails are great (West or East sides of the road). Very beautiful forest and the trails are even decent when it's raining.

It's a pretty trail in the arboretum, that is away from the roads, so that's nice.

A lot to see from the foliage, some really neat trees. Not a lot in terms of landscape, the forest along the trail is just so dense. Well maintained and some steep segments, would make for a great run I think and I am to run it soon

It's an uphill maze. With a decent view.

I really wanted 3 1/2 stars. it's cool, nice hike, trails all over. not alot of viewpoints or anything.

Pretty nice loop.

Quick fun hike.

I love this trail! So much to see, I did the whole loop this morning and never saw another human being! They have done quite a bit of logging on the south side, reveals the gnarly old , majestic surviving individuals. I took the connector trail up to the 530, then crossed the 500 and returned down to Cronemiller Lake by the trail. Back to the car, is almost 4 miles.

OSU does a very good job maintaining this trail. It's in very good condition and well marked. However, expect a lot of other users and know that ALL dogs will be unleashed even though there are ample signs throughout indicating dogs must be leashed. Aggressive, charging dogs, one off his rocker aggressive, screaming dog owner, and bags of poop scattered throughout are reasons enough for me to say one visit is enough. Also, mtn bikers ride the hiking trails, so watch for them too. Better yet, go somewhere else. There is nothing relaxing about this place. Sorry OSU.
