amazing hike

Very nice way to start a long weekend in Crater Lake NP. Easy, walking access from Mazama Campground and the trail wasn't too crowded during midday on a weekday. Great canyon scenery and views of pinnacles, striations, and other "geological stuff." The trail often meanders along creekside. Wildflowers abound. Wonderfully welcoming trail.

Short, easy trail. Nice views of pinnacles. Keep an eye on toddlers! May be an opportunity for some notable photography at dawn and dusk.

If you like trails sparsely populated by humans, this is a good one. I had some difficulty finding the trailhead and luckily parked at a picnic area (Lodgepole Picnic site) across Hwy 62 and decided to follow the only trailhead I could find, that for Pumice Flats, which was Stuart Falls Trail. The trail starts with easy inclines through an open and sun-dappled stretch of lodgepole pine. There are bears in the area, and it looked to me that they were recent visitors, if I identified the scat right. The trail meanders through the lodgepole into increasing elevation changes, more rocky terrain, with a change to doug fir. One memorable moment was coming up out of a bottom below a forested bluff to find a cliffside view of turkey vultures sunning themselves. They turned slowly around to take a look at me before spreading their wings and falling off the cliff edge. They soared back upward and around and circled over me closely, curious. Looking south toward Goose Nest and Goose Egg peaks, it was strikingly apparent that I did not have any human company and between the vultures, the bear scat and the strong scent of ammonia (read: not bears) further down the trail, it was equally apparent that I was not a creature alone. I hiked this trail in mid August during a very dry year and when I came to the second of two creek crossings and realized the water supply was barely measurable, I did not continue to the falls and complete this trail that day. However, the flora, topography, views, the scarcity of human company, and the opportunity to cross paths with various fauna makes this a very special and personally valuable trail and I look forward to returning. Keep this one wild, folks! It's a treasure.
Note: The Fall itself is actually outside of the southern park boundary of Crater Lake NP.

Nice, wooded trail that winds through wet bottom area with reasonably gentle incline toward the Fall. Much insect life to observe such as a myriad of butterflies and very large, black beetles. This is a great trail for curious, little kids! Trail is maintained well by the park and appears to be weathering constant use. It is not a lightly-trafficked trail. The Fall attracts plenty of visitors, and rightly so. Large and refreshing in late summer, it's a beautiful jewel in the Crater Lake crown.

Did this portion while snow camping towards watchmen tower. Easy to follow the closed road and the views were great!

Excellent late summer hike even with wildfire smoke. Moderate rating but easy for seasoned hikers with a mostly level trail and gradual incline. Energetic school-aged kiddos could do this trail. Interesting flora if little fauna. Beautiful views and a diversity of colorful minerals to see. Wildfire tower was locked up but USGS medallion was easy to locate. I didn't see one human soul on this hike in mid-August. Surprising.

Beautiful hike located within Crater Lake National Park. Excellent views of the entire lake. You can see Diamond Lake and Mt. Thielsen off in the distance.

Amazing hike. Incredible views on the way down, a bit strenuous on the way back up. Make sure you cliff jump into the lake! Absolutely recommend.

Got lucky with a beautiful, sunny, low wind day. The snow was dense so was able to walk with microspikes to Discovery Point easily. Views are surreal. Snowshoes came in handy when I extended my hike to Watchman Overlook for an ~8 mile RT. Didn't see a winter trail to Watchman Peak, which may be OK as there was a lot of loose snow and ice on the steep incline. Depending on where you drive in from make sure your GPS knows only the South road is open during winter time.

Weather was great and we got a great view of the lake and Wizard Island. Rented snowshoes from gift shop and cafe in Rim Village ($16 for 24 hrs). From Rim Village to the Watchmen it is about 4 miles (8 miles round trip) and took us a total of 4.5 hours there and back. You can’t get to the peak with all the snow though.

Hiked this trail because it's only official access to Crater Lake I'm aware of. The boat tours, light fishing and swimming in its very cold water. Trail is switchback from parking down to waters edge. Flat surface but steep inclines even with switchbacks.

Amazing hike! Somewhat intense but doable climb.

Lots of fun jumping in to the water, it was very cold, but clear and blue. Very quick to.

Really fun! We didn't get the whole view because go the smoke from the forest fire, but it was still pretty.

Did this one in August 2016. It’s a short and sweet little hike. Moderately steep. I definitely had to take a few short breaks because of the elevation. It’s about 8000 ft. at the peak. But overall very scenic and wonderful views!

Easy but beautiful walk through the forest with amazing views of Crater Lake and the Phantom Ship.

High "return on effort", great views for an easy hike (should not be classified as "moderate", though)

Beautiful views. Don't forget this is in the national park, so being $15 to get in the park. It was cold and windy at the trailhead and sunny and warm during the hike and at the top. Not hard, gradual incline up. Took me 45 mins to get to the top with a steady pace. Highly recommend!

loved the trail. We were the first ones to hike it the morning of 10/8/2017. we started at 9:55am. It was cold and there was fresh snow on the ground. the trail is easy and well defined. The views are amazing from the top.

Very scenic, moderately steep trail with panoramic views of the area.

Steep hike but easy! Beginning of it is all just heading down to the shore. Once you get there, there will be a spectacular up close view of the deepest and clearest lake in America! Play in it! Then hike back up and that's it

Very easy trail. Anyone can do it! Just walk along the path to get awesome views of the pinnacles.

Absolutely worth the climb! Get a shot of the USGS markers as proof you made it to the top.
