Easy hike, just be ready to be hiking in the outskirts of the city.

This year I'm exploring all the hidden hiking gems within Portland and the surrounding area. There are so many places I've never been though I've lived here all my life. This hike was one of those experiences, and I enjoyed it greatly. I chose a low traffic time, so I don't know how crowded the trail normally is. There were just a few others braving the steep climb up and quite a few more enjoying the park and view at Council Crest at the top.

First time trail running down this path was thrilling!

It was definitely a city hike, but it was fun. I would say it was an easy hike.

Muddy this time of year, but a nice trail. Fun little bridges. There are paper maps at the trailhead and I was able to extend this trip quite a bit. There are several trails that connect to this one. Not too crowded. Occasional urban camper; no one bothered me.

Great trail, I wouldn't go as far to say it's "Moderate". It wasn't a difficult hike. nice scenery and once I got up to council crest for the first time, the views were great I soaked them up for a couple of hours before I decided to hike back down.

The trail itself was ok... nothing to right home about. The view from Council Crest was beautiful, but pretty crowded!

This convenient, but heavily used, trail in the West Hills near downtown Portland leads to the iconic Council Crest Peak. On a clear day there are great views not only of the city, but also Mt. Hood, Mt. Saint Helens and Mt. Adams.

my sister and I had a great time hiking here. it was a little muddy but I think it had rained the night before. overall, it was beautiful.

Great trail. A little muddy at some points during rainy season.

Pretty with low to moderate foot traffic. Trail section we were on was sloped so a bit hard to walk on.

Pretty rainy morning made it muddy in spots but still very doable. I look forward to doing this hike in the spring and summer.

Great trail for a short walk, dog friendly. Probably get very cold in this part of the town during winter, roads may be icy.

Great urban hike ..Thrilled to see big houses in the slopes

Fun, quick hike with nice views at Council Crest

A pretty hike when you want something fairly quick. The hike up to Council Crest Park is easy to moderate. Mostly uphill the entire way to the park, but only at a 10-30% incline, with several areas where it's pretty flat. Lots of shade from the trees. The view from the park is gorgeous on a clear day. Pack a lunch and enjoy the view before heading back down.

Parking lot off of Sam Jackson Rd is small. Quick hike and OK view at the top.

This is a fun little day hike with a rewarding view at council crest. The trail is small but well defined. Up hill is tough at times but not too bad. Make sure to leash dogs or keep them nearby because the trail crosses roads.

Fun little hike for being right in the city.

great local forest hike.

v beautiful hike. the sections where one finds oneself traipsing through neighborhoods of wealthy people's houses are slightly less than exhilarating, but still a v nice hike overall.

best trail in town. great for visitors

wet today. marked fairly well. did as part of the 4T.

did as part of the 4T. No tram on Sundays.

Great hike to an even greater view at the top! Trail was a little muddy in some spots but that was expected after this seasons unusually high amount of snowfall! Overall a wonderful hike with beautiful old growth forest scenery! If you haven't been here before, it is a must!

Nice trail!

Great hike, especially for being right in the city. I felt like this was more of an easy hike than a moderate one. Good tree cover for a rainy day hike, however the trail was a bit slippery so use caution if you're going on a wet day!

Nice trail, easy access. Multiple points of access. Partly Runs along highways and houses. Finishes at a park with a great view of the city. Spotted a homeless squatter on the trail.
