Took a quick hike late in the afternoon when it was cooler. Lots of loose rocks and little to no shade but short and sweet with great views.

Trails are easy when staying on the path.
Rocks adjacent to them - not so easy lol. I have hiked it twice and getting to the summit is easier in the spring than the fall. It gets dark quick so plan early and bring extra lighting.

Total time spent was a couple of hours each way to the summit of the mountain next to the tower. I’ve seen some folks fishing the lake there but I never got over to it.

Last trip was in January and it was very cold. Ice still on the rocks which can make for a dicey climb. Still very worth it.

My fiancé proposed on top of the mountain next to the tower, it was a perfect hike with an amazing sunset. Cold but beautiful.

Kite trail is very enjoyable with the family, singles, or couples. The view is beautiful. It's a semi-long trail. You can climb or just follow the trail. It took us 3 1\2 hours to complete from beginning to end (including stop for lunch, and enjoying the view).

Beautiful trail. Fairly easy trail with little elevation gain. Hiked with my grandkids, ages 12, 10 and 8, they had no difficulties. Lots of Beautiful scenery and wildlife.

Great views! The wild flowers are beautiful. Rocky in places, and lots of little streams. It was actually closer to an 8 mile hike.

This trail has a little bit of everything! This says 6 miles but it is 8 miles.

My dad and I took this trail with my dog and we loved it! The view was amazing, the hike in was really easy! We where a little confused at one point it V’s and the right goes away from the tower. So we turned around and went left and had no other problems. We found a rattle snake on the path on the way back down!! So be be careful!

very easy trail to follow

Nice hike, easy to follow trail with abundance of markers and maps at crossroads. It's not the most spectacular hike in the refuge, though the well known, beautiful 40 foot canyon is part of it.

great trail and great for kids! my 3 yr old daughter whooped butt on this trail!

I’ve been going to the refuge hiking for decades and had no idea about this forest trail, since it isn’t marked at all! I was alone and it was getting late the day I ventured in, so I didn’t hike far, but it is on my list to return to!

This has been a family favorite for years- I took my 4yo grandson this weekend (we usually hike Elk Mountain together but it was full) and he loved it and did great. Bring water- not much shade on this trail and it can get toasty!

Took 8 kids ages 5-13. Not too difficult for any of them. Though you are climbing a little bit. The falls were barely trickling but still pretty.

Easy hike, wish the tower was open and able to get inside for the view.

It was an extremely pretty trail. Great views, friendly folks, and an overall nice experience. The trail can be a bit hard to follow in some places, but it was well worth it.

This was a very enjoyable hike we did with our 23 month old in a pack.. The terrain goes from rocky to grassland to woodlands. However the Bison Trail is 8 not 6 miles. We cut off some of the bison trail by taking the Longhorn Trail where they intersect then getting back on the Bison trail on the other side... That was 7 miles exactly,
We did not see any buffalo except for two dead ones on the trail, however in our drive in and our drive out we say multiples, along with turkey, longhorn, multiple migrant birds.

Great Trail and will go back again.

Temperatures were low and winds high but we enjoyed the hike. We didn't follow the trail as marked n hiked along the stream instead.

It was a great hike! Definitely one of the hardest hikes that I have been on. It was worth all of the work, and I will say that it’s definitely harder if you don’t follow the trail the whole way. Definitely a hike that you should take!;)

Makes for a great day adventure. Wonderful Canyon views A long with plenty of bodies of water to explore. Bring your camera

The trail can be a bit rocky but nothing too extreme. Saw several bison on the trail. I can't wait to explore the other trails in the park.

One of my favorite parks and trails! 10/10 would recommend, dog friendly and the wildlife is incredible. Easy trail with insane views and worth the memories.

Great hike, short, but fun. Cool seeing the old tower at the top.

It's an overall easy trail but there is not always a clearly defined path so try not to get lost. We never made the full circle and had to just turn around a little ways after crossing the creek because the path just disappeared.

Enjoyable Trail. I spent half a day on this trail and encountered 3 Longhorn and a deer. Some parts have a sudden “raise” in elevation, but i don’t see it as a problem to beginners. Trail got a little hard to read near the Lost Dam, but other than that I loved it. You can get some cool views of the mountains and the river from this trail.
