Talimena State Park marks the Oklahoma entrance to the Talimena National Scenic Drive, 54 miles of winding road through the Ouachita Mountains and known for spectacular spring and fall foliage. Hiking and backpacking trails offer a wide range of scenic, wooded terrain. Dirt bikes and ATVs are permitted in the park as an entrance point to the National forest lands. Talimena State Park offers facilities for picnics and camping, including tables, a group shelter, full RV hookups with electric and water hookups, tent campsites, a playground, hiking trails and comfort station with showers.

I had an awesome day today. I hiked 8 miles of the Ouachita Trail from Talimena State Park to Deadmans Gap. I then backtracked and took the Bohannon trail to the Chickasaw Nation Trail which I followed back to Talimena State Park. I was on trail for 20 miles and had an elevation change of 2,864 feet. I completed the last 3.5 miles in the dark with light rain. The Ouachita Trail was in great shape and well marked. The Bohannon and Chickasaw Nation Trails will test your navigation skills. The short walk off trail to Panorama Vista is a must, the view should not be missed.
