It’s well maintained and very easy to hike. I saw deer, many different birds, snakes, lizards, and other animals.

Brief trail leads to an observation deck, where you can look out over the Great Salt Plains from the north. A great place to view terns and sandpipers, among other shorebirds passing through the region.

As with the Refuge's Nature Trail, the Auto Trail has some wonderful and unexpected scenery for northwest Oklahoma--wetland marshes and shorebirds.

This is a great little nature trail that takes you through some of the unique marshy wetlands of the Wildlife Refuge (at times it feels more like Louisiana than Oklahoma). The whole trail is a pleasure, filled with wildlife and vegetation and well-maintained, but the highlight is the observation deck overlooking Sand Creek Bay. In mid-July, we were able to see dozens of beautiful shore birds that, again, you'll be surprised to find in Oklahoma.
