Got caught in a light rain while hiking this trail. steady climb ay the beginning.

nice short trail, lots of wind today.

This has few dramatic elevation changes. Has some of the best views of any day hike on the Talimena Scenic Byway, especially on the west end of the trail, the north and south has views of the valleys throughout, especially during leaf off. Shows off the micro environment differences between north and south faces, both are phenomenal.

A bit rough on the ascent as this portion of the Ouachita Trail goes up 541 ft. at a pretty steep incline. Great to get the heart pumping. It probably should be noted as hard, outstanding views on the way up, if you go all the way to the two peaks you can get 360 degree views in the winter. There are other easier trails that lead away from Winding Stair National Recreation Area, this one is good to get the heart rate up.

We camped in the Cedar Lake area in late October over a weekend and did this trail on Saturday. Although the park itself was packed, the trail was pretty empty. Beautiful views throughout the trail, varying terrain but not strenuous. About three miles total overall. We crossed several little bridges and passed several spots with access to the lake. A small part of the trail was a nature trail with informational signs about wildlife and plantlife in the area.
